Table of traffic police fines for 2021 for violating traffic rules, what, sizes

Unfortunately, in our country the systematic increase in traffic police fines has long become a real tradition. That is why, as soon as information appeared in the media that there were new fines from 2018-2019, motorists immediately picked up this unverified information, without even specifying what changes in legislation were actually being discussed. But is this actually true? And what exactly has changed? Will the fines for speed, driving without MTPL insurance, stop line, oncoming traffic, and also for lack of a driver's license be changed? More details about this in our publication.

New traffic police fines from November 20, 2021

According to information that has been distributed online, important changes will come into force on November 20, 2021. First of all, they concern new fines. In particular, the following innovations were reported:

  • 8,000 rubles - for driving into the oncoming lane (previously - 5,000 rubles)
  • 5,000 rubles - For driving without an MTPL insurance policy plus impound parking (previously - 800 rubles)
  • 5,000 rubles - for a prohibitory red traffic light (before the changes - 1,000 rubles)
  • 2000 rubles – for a stop line (previously the fine was 800 rubles)
  • 1000 rubles – for exceeding the permitted speed by up to 40 km/h (previously – 500 rubles)
  • 10,000 rubles – for exceeding more than 60 km/h (previously the fine ranged from 2,000 to 2,500 rubles)
  • 4000 rubles – for exceeding the permitted speed by 40-60 km/h (before the changes the fine was at the level of 1000 to 1500 rubles)
  • 8,000 rubles – for driving without a driver’s license (without a license) (before the changes the fine was 500 rubles)

Of course, not all car enthusiasts believed this information, which they received in mass mailings in instant messengers and social networks. Many people decided to personally check when exactly the relevant law will come into force, whether it has already been published on the government’s web portal among the proposed projects or on some other official web portal. But none of the sources contains such data. And this is immediately alarming.

Are there any changes to the table of fines for traffic violations in 2018?

There are no changes. Any information provided on this matter on dubious Internet sites that do not check sources is incorrect and misleading.

All fines for violating traffic rules are given in Chapter 12 of the Code of Administrative Offences. The latest federal law adopted by parliament and signed by the president regarding amendments to this chapter of the code is 301-FZ of October 30, 2021.

This federal law refers to a fall amendment to Article 12.18, which establishes penalties for drivers who fail to yield to pedestrians at a crosswalk. Instead of the previous punishment of 1,500 rubles, a “fork” appeared - from 1,500 to 2,500 rubles.

By the way, this amendment is also a good example of how carelessly the media sometimes convey information.

In the fall, almost everyone reported an increase in the fine for such a violation as failure to allow a pedestrian to pass, but no one paid attention to the fact that now in fact there is some “running time”, and the driver may well receive a fine in the same amount - 1,500 rubles - and this will be quite legal. Increased fines appeared as a tool to punish particularly serious violations within a pedestrian crossing.

Thus, no new traffic police fines for traffic violations have come into force since January 1, 2021. The amount of any applicable fine remains the same as before.

Have new traffic police fines come into force on January 1, 2021 and has the table of fines changed?
