Wrong turn in the wrong place

Now let's talk about violating the U-turn rules.

At the crossroads

Violations at an intersection most often consist of the fact that the driver fails to make a U-turn in the area of the intersection of roads or makes it under a sign where this maneuver is prohibited. The punishment is determined by Part 2 of Article 12.16 of the Code of Administrative Offenses and can amount to 1000-1500 rubles.

At the bus stop

In areas intended for stops by route transport, turning around is prohibited. Drivers need to pay extra attention in this area, as pedestrians often enter the area and visibility is obstructed.

If there is a sign and markings on the road, 15 meters are counted from the end of the marking in each direction. What punishment awaits the driver and how much will the fine be for making a prohibited U-turn in the wrong place? If you violate the rules of turning around at MTS stops, a fine of 500 rubles is provided. Find out what fine a driver will face for making a U-turn at a pedestrian crossing here.

"Moving Straight"

The specified road sign allows the car owner to move exclusively in a straight direction, prohibiting the use of other maneuvering options.

If a sign is installed at a road intersection, its powers affect only this intersection. If it is placed outside an intersection, then its influence extends within the road until the nearest intersection. In this case, there is no prohibition on turning to the right if you need to get into nearby territory. Route buses, trolleybuses and trams may not be subject to this restriction.

An important note is that the sign in question may be located in a break in the demarcation strip to prevent vehicles from turning left and making a U-turn.

A serious violation is the intentional or unintentional crossing of a solid line.

This sign warns the driver against entering the oncoming lane and driving on a one-way road. Since this is unsafe both for the owner of the car and for other car owners and pedestrians, this violation is subject to deprivation of rights.

Controversial situations of this violation and ways to avoid punishment in such cases

Sometimes, while performing a maneuver, the driver realizes that he does not fit into the trajectory and is forced to break the rules. In such a situation, he may try to reduce his punishment. He will have to choose whether to drive into the oncoming lane or use several successive techniques to complete the maneuver.

By choosing the second option, you can reduce the severity of the punishment - if you make a U-turn incorrectly, you will be fined only 500 rubles, and if you drive into the oncoming lane, the court will make a decision that is more serious for the offender.

You should start making turns in the area that seems larger. If you can't fit perfectly into the road. You will be able to continue driving along the road you intended to cross. In that case, there will be no violation, except perhaps some inconvenience, because you will have to drive along a road that was not originally planned.

When making a U-turn in a small area, if the driver feels that he cannot fit in, it is better to use reverse gear and straighten the path. In this case, you can only be fined for the fact that the car was moving in reverse at the intersection. The fine is 500 rubles if the driver managed to avoid causing an accident by such actions. Find out more details about fines for reversing in this article.

"Right turns are prohibited"

This sign demonstrates that right turns are prohibited.

This rule does not affect the progress of public transport following the route. Its influence is distributed exclusively over the controlled intersection.

Ignoring the ban may result in the driver driving into an oncoming lane with one-way traffic. For such illegal behavior, the vehicle owner has the opportunity to lose his driver’s license for six months. You shouldn’t put your and other people’s lives at risk, even if you don’t mind having a driver’s license.

In the best case, that is, if the owner of the vehicle drives into an identical lane, he faces damage in the range of 500 rubles.

When you can't go right

As in the previous section, in the first place there is a prohibitory sign that does not allow you to turn right. It is assigned the number 3.18.1; route vehicles are not subject to this prohibiting element. If the location of its installation is the intersection of roadways, then only vehicles at this intersection are subject to it.

The consequence of violating this sign is not only an expected fine, but also the possibility of driving onto a road with traffic in one direction and moving in the opposite direction. This is followed by the likelihood of an emergency and traffic jam. For such actions you can lose your rights for six months, and even pay a good fine.

Right turns are prohibited

"Left turn prohibited"

This sign prohibits right turns, but not U-turns. Like the one above, it does not affect buses, trams and trolleybuses. Spreads to the nearest intersection.

For violating this rule, the driver will face material damage in the amount of 1-1.5 tr. And this is the minimum punishment, since driving into the oncoming lane threatens five thousand or the confiscation of your license for six months.

In an excellent case, when turning left, you may encounter another sign restricting movement, which may prevent you from continuing your movement. An inattentive motorist will have to look for a way out of a difficult situation, from which he may not be able to get out without violating other rules.

Controversial situations with signs prohibiting left turns

If with a prohibitory sign numbered 3.18.2. everything is clear - only driving to the left is prohibited, then some of the prescriptive signs need to be discussed in more detail.

Prohibitory signs, that is, those with a red circle border, prohibit performing only a certain action. In the case of the above sign - only left turn. Driving straight, right or making a U-turn is completely permitted.

But the mandatory signs, the categories of which include 4.1.1., sign 4.1.2. and pointer 4.1.4., they instruct the driver to move in a certain direction, and nothing else.

Thus, if a driver sees a sign made in the shape of a circle with a blue color without a border, with an arrow(s) inside indicating the direction of travel, he should move exactly as the sign instructs.

The exception is the entrances to courtyard areas - the mandatory signs do not apply to them.

"U-turn prohibited"

This sign prohibits turning around at the intersection of roads, and concerns the entire intersection. Does not apply to public transport. As a rule, it is placed in places where the specified maneuver will become dangerous for surrounding cars and people.

In areas designated for public transport stops, turning around is also not permitted. In this area, car owners should be more careful, because there are often people there, and vision becomes limited.

Advice: if there is a characteristic sign at a stopping point, the area for prohibiting turning around is limited to 15 meters from all positions from the sign.

Sanctions for ignoring the ban are 1-1.5 tr.

When you can't turn around

Sign number 3.19 indicates that changing the trajectory of a car is prohibited on this section of the road. Just like other signs, route vehicles can make a U-turn, despite the presence of this sign. But there is still a difference between other elements of road markings - the effect of the sign extends to the entire intersection, and not to a separate part of it.

Such a standardized image can be seen at those intersections, the structure of which makes a U-turn a dangerous maneuver in relation to vehicles or pedestrians. If you violate this clause of the traffic rules, you will have to part with 1 thousand rubles or even 1.5 thousand rubles. This sign may have a yellow background, which will indicate its temporary nature.

U-turn prohibited

In order to no longer pay fines or get into unpleasant situations, it will be enough to master this material well and learn the prohibitive actions of the prescriptive road elements. In this matter, practice, attentiveness and concentration will not hurt. If every driver strives to drive carefully, the situation on the roads will become better - everything is in our hands, we ourselves create comfortable conditions in the process of moving vehicles within the roads.
