Turning right on a red light is no longer considered a violation at some intersections in Moscow

Fine for running a red light and for driving beyond a stop line

For the first violation of driving through a red or yellow light within a year in Russia, a fine of 1,000 rubles is provided. Movement on yellow is allowed only in the case specified in clause 6.14

“Drivers who, when the yellow signal turns on or the traffic controller raises his hand up, cannot stop without resorting to emergency braking in the places determined by paragraph 6.13 of the Rules, are allowed to continue driving.”

For the second and subsequent violations committed within a year, the driver faces a penalty of 5,000 rubles or the confiscation of his license for up to six months. Such punishment is regulated by Article 12.12 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation.

Driving at a prohibiting signal, not allowing pedestrians to pass at a crossing, and leaving a lane intended for oncoming traffic are the most serious violations of traffic rules. A driver who does not follow the rules can cause an accident: run over pedestrians or collide with other vehicles.

Most traffic lights are equipped with three lights that regulate the movement of traffic at the intersection of roads - at intersections. The three light signals are:

  1. Green . Gives a signal to road users that movement is permitted. Flashing green indicates that a color change will occur soon.
  2. Yellow . It is interpreted as a signal that in some situations allows the driver to complete the maneuver.
  3. Red . Further movement of vehicles is prohibited. The driver must stop at the stop line, but not on it or behind it.

According to clause 13.3 of the traffic rules, when the yellow light is flashing, the traffic light is not working or there is no traffic controller, the driver must follow the rules for driving through the intersection as an unregulated one and follow the signs.

If the traffic light stops working when approaching an intersection, the driver must stop driving and assess the traffic situation. This will help prevent accidents. When driving through an unregulated intersection, you need to be guided by the rule of priority for those driving on the main road.

In case of non-compliance with this basic rule, the driver faces penalties - a fine in the amount of 1,000 rubles .

If a traffic controller controls traffic when the traffic light is not working, then you need to remember that he cancels the actions of signs and traffic light signals. For unauthorized movement in response to a traffic controller's prohibiting gesture, the motorist will be punished.

What is the fine for driving through a red traffic light in 2021?

Article 12.13 regulates the situation with driving to the intersection of roads and determines penalties. Thus, according to the rules, it is forbidden to drive to a road intersection or to a “waffle iron” if a traffic jam is visible ahead. Only a right turn is allowed when the driver does not impede the movement.

Need to know! When driving to an intersection of roads, as a result of which a traffic jam occurs and the situation on the road worsens, the violator faces punishment in the form of a fine of 1,000 rubles.

However, in reality it is quite difficult to receive a punishment for such behavior, since the concept of “congestion” is extremely vague. But if, due to the fault of some driver, traffic on the road was paralyzed, then the punishment will be justified.

Due to the fact that its meaning is interpreted intuitively, a traffic light with a signal in the shape of a red circle means a ban on further movement .

Note : It is not much different from a regular flashlight, and its main function remains unchanged: when the red circle at the traffic light is on, driving is prohibited.

More specifically, the red circle prohibits making a turn. It lights up after the green arrow in the turn section goes out.

What cameras record driving through a prohibitory signal?

There are two types of cameras at intersections: some look directly at passing cars, others monitor cars that have already passed. Both types of cameras are located on the same horizontal mast. Movement under red light and along the stop line is monitored by cameras of the second type. When the red light turns on, the camera records the license plates of cars that passed the prohibitory signal.

So, if you paid a fine for running a red light less than a year ago, then a similar traffic violation will be considered a repeat violation. At the same time, the administrative punishment for repeated violation of driving through a red light is provided for by the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation more severely. Depending on the severity of the violation, the traffic police inspector may impose a fine or send the case to court for further consideration.

When deciding whether it is possible to turn right on a red light, everything depends on the individual intersection. If a traffic light has an additional section with an arrow to the right, then movement to the right is allowed as long as the arrow is green.

Traffic light signals, made in the form of red, yellow and green arrows, have the same meaning as round signals of the corresponding color, but their effect extends only to the direction(s) indicated by the arrows. In this case, the arrow allowing a left turn also allows a U-turn, unless this is prohibited by the corresponding road sign.

What should you do if you started driving on a green signal, but when you approached the next traffic light, the light had already turned red?

According to clause 13.7 of the Traffic Rules, a driver who entered an intersection on green must complete his maneuver without paying attention to the signals of other traffic lights.

The driver must let pedestrians pass at the traffic light located at the exit of the intersection and complete the maneuver without waiting for the green signal.

It is necessary to wait for the traffic light signal only if there is a sign or stop line marking in front of it.

A driver who enters an intersection when the traffic light signal permits must drive in the intended direction regardless of the traffic light signal at the exit from the intersection. However, if at the intersection in front of the traffic lights located on the driver’s route there are stop lines (signs 6.16), the driver must follow the signals of each traffic light.

13.7 Traffic rules

According to clause 6.2.14 of GOST R 52289-2004, the “Stop line” road marking should be located at a distance of 10 to 20 m from the traffic light, which is located above the road, and at a distance from 3 to 5 m from the traffic light, which is located on the side of the road. roads.

At railway crossings, marking 1.12 is applied at a distance of 5 m to the barrier or traffic light. If they are not there, then the markings are applied at a distance of 10 m to the rails.

The markings can be duplicated with a “Stop Line” sign; in this case, the sign is installed on the same line as the markings. However, it also happens that the markings and the sign are located at a considerable distance from each other. How to stop before the stop line in this case? Do you need to stop at a sign or marking?

The Russian Traffic Regulations say that if the requirements of markings and signs contradict each other, then it is necessary to obey the requirements of the signs. The same rule applies in cases where the markings are barely visible:

In cases where the meanings of road signs, including temporary ones, and horizontal markings contradict each other or the markings are not sufficiently distinguishable, drivers must be guided by the road signs

Part 1 Appendix 2 Traffic Regulations

It is prohibited to drive beyond the stop line at a red traffic light. Read below about the size of the fine provided for by traffic rules for crossing a stop line at a traffic light in 2021.

Traffic police officers rarely issue fines for minor trips to the stop line. If such a violation is recorded by a surveillance camera, the driver will be fined.

At the same time, video recording cameras not only consider the slightest protrusion of the bumper a violation. There are times when a fine has arrived for a stop line, but it is not visible, or when it is not the bumper that has entered the markings, but the shadow of the car.

If you do not agree with the imposition of a fine on you, you have the right to challenge it. According to Part 1 of Art. 30.3

To file a complaint challenging an administrative fine, a period of 10 days is given from the date of receipt of the decision on the violation.

As for where to stop in front of a traffic light, if there is no stop line, then according to clause 6.13 of the Traffic Rules, in this case the stop must be made in front of the intersecting roadway or traffic light so as not to interfere with pedestrians and vehicles.

When there is a prohibiting signal from a traffic light (except a reversing one) or a traffic controller, drivers must stop in front of the stop line (sign 6.16), and in its absence: - at an intersection - in front of the roadway being crossed (taking into account clause 13.7 of the Rules), without interfering with pedestrians; - before a railway crossing - in accordance with clause 15.4 of the Rules; - in other places - in front of a traffic light or traffic controller, without interfering with vehicles and pedestrians whose movement is permitted.

clause 6.13 of traffic rules

At a railway crossing, in accordance with clause 15.4, a stop must be made in front of a traffic light if there are no stop lines. If there is no traffic light, you should stop 5 m before the barrier or 10 m before the rails if there is no barrier:

In cases where movement through the crossing is prohibited, the driver must stop at the stop line, sign 2.5 or traffic light; if there are none, no closer than 5 m from the barrier, and in the absence of the latter, no closer than 10 m to the nearest rail.

clause 15.4 of traffic regulations

According to clause 13.2 of the Traffic Rules, it is prohibited to drive to an intersection where there is a traffic jam:

It is prohibited to drive to an intersection or intersection of roadways if a traffic jam has formed that will force the driver to stop, creating an obstacle to the movement of vehicles in the transverse direction.

In addition to Moscow car owners, Belgorod drivers will also participate in the experiment. And if the rules of such driving are quickly learned, changes will be made to the traffic rules. And then turning on red will be given the green light in all regions of the country.

Meanwhile, the punishment for driving through a red traffic light from a relatively small amount of 1000 rubles after a single violation has been tightened to temporary deprivation of a driver's license after a repeated violation. What is the responsibility for driving through a prohibitory traffic light this year? Is only red light this prohibiting signal?

On Wednesday, June 19, an unusual experiment began in the capital, during which motorists are allowed to turn right when the traffic light turns off. According to driving instructors , such a rule was once in effect in Russia, but for some reason it was canceled. Today they decided to revive the right turn on red.

However, from June 19, you can not turn to “red” everywhere, but only at certain intersections. There is no need to remember these intersections, since they have special green arrows and information boards. This sign indicates that an experiment is being conducted here, which allows the driver to turn right when the signal is prohibited. The traffic police warns that in this case you can turn, but first you must give way to everyone who is driving at the green light.

Driving through a railway crossing at a red traffic light is considered a more serious violation than the same offense at an intersection: now the driver is endangering not only himself, the passengers in the car and the car itself, but can also interfere with the movement of the train. For this violation, you can immediately lose your rights for a period of 3 to 6 months, and for a repeated violation - for 1 year. Entering the reverse lane on a red light will entail the imposition of an administrative fine in the amount of the same 1,000 rubles.

Under the hood of this all-metal van is a German engine, but paired with a domestically produced lithium-ion battery. It must be said that the power of the electric Gazelle will not be the highest. The electric motor from Siemens produces only 63 kW or 86 hp. As for the battery, its capacity is 136–204 Ah (depending on the number of blocks). Consequently, the van will be able to travel no more than 100–150 kilometers between recharges.

What is the responsibility for driving through a prohibitory traffic light this year? Is only red light this prohibiting signal? How is driving through a red light recorded and how can one appeal a decision to punish a driver for driving through such a signal, which is unlawful from the driver’s point of view?

  1. “A person who has been imposed an administrative penalty for committing an administrative offense is considered subject to this punishment from the date the decision on the imposition of an administrative penalty enters into legal force until the expiration of one year from the date of completion of the execution of this decision.”

Fine for driving through a red traffic light in 2021

If an accident occurs when a vehicle runs a red light, then liability for it is determined based on the consequences of the accident. If there are victims, liability arises - either administrative or criminal.

The culprit of an accident is brought to administrative responsibility when harm of varying degrees of severity is caused to the health of the victim:

  • minor damage to health. Under these circumstances, the violator will be fined equal to 5-8 minimum wages, or deprived of rights for a long period - three months - six months;
  • harm to health of moderate severity. This threatens with a fine of 15–25 minimum wages or deprivation of rights from six months to a year.

Under no circumstances should you drive through a red semaphore light at a railway crossing, which is located at the intersection of railway tracks and a road. This is prohibited by section 15 of the traffic rules.

This is interesting! Semaphores are installed at crossings, and traffic lights are installed on roads. They are devices that regulate movement and differ from each other in design.

If this rule is not followed, the motorist faces a fine of 1,000 rubles or deprivation of his driving license for a period of four to six months. A secondary offense of this type can turn a driver into a pedestrian for a whole year.

If there is a traffic jam at the intersection, leaving it will be considered a gross violation of the rules (clause 13.2 of the traffic rules). An offense will result in a fine of 1,000 rubles being collected from the violator in accordance with the norms of Part 1 of Article 12.13 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation.

An irresponsible driver who enters an intersection during a traffic jam violates the above-mentioned traffic rules clause and creates serious obstacles to the movement of vehicles moving along a perpendicular road, which, as a rule, leads to the formation of traffic jams.

Every year, due to the improvement of technical means of video recording, an increasing number of offenses do not go unnoticed.

Automatic cameras record such traffic violations in 2021 as:

  • in case of traffic jam, go to the intersection of roads;
  • driving a car beyond the stop line;
  • driving through one of the prohibitory traffic lights when the driver must stop the vehicle;
  • crossing the railway track at a red or yellow semaphore light.

Punishment for driving through a red traffic light and driving beyond a stop line

Meanwhile, the punishment for driving through a red traffic light from a relatively small amount of 1000 rubles after a single violation has been tightened to temporary deprivation of a driver's license after a repeated violation.

Today, the fine for running a red light is 1,000 rubles (Article 12.12, Part 1 of the Administrative Code of the Russian Federation) for the first violation, and 5,000 rubles or deprivation of rights for 4-6 months for a repeated violation (Article 12.12, Part 3 of the Administrative Code). Read more below.

An experiment is being conducted in Moscow and Belgorod, which, if successfully applied, will be reflected in the Traffic Rules. Its essence is simple. On several streets it will be possible to turn right on a red light, but only after the driver gives way to other road users. Drivers will be warned about this possibility by an additional reflective sign at the traffic light.

  • from Velozavodskaya st. on the street Avtozavodskaya
  • from Nagatinskaya st. on Andropov Avenue
  • from 3rd Krutitsky lane. on Novospassky proezd
  • on Peasant Outpost Square from 3rd Krutitsky Lane. towards Volgogradsky Prospekt
  • from st. 1905 on Zvenigorodskoe highway.
  • from Mosfilmovskaya st. on the street Kosygina.

If you do not agree with the protocol drawn up, then you can always go to court. But the expediency of actions exists when there is evidence. You need to have arguments that will prove: there was no driving through the red light or it was a justified, necessary action. If you really violated and simply want to avoid punishment, then this is not the option.

You can make a U-turn at an intersection along two trajectories – near and far. When choosing a trajectory, you need to focus on the place where your car will go after completing the maneuver. The presence of a dividing strip requires the use of a long-range trajectory. If there is none, you have the right to choose your own trajectory.

In the opposite situation, there will be no one to let through, so the driver will be able to complete the started maneuver as soon as possible, making sure that other drivers standing on the stop line of the adjacent road are letting him through.

  1. If you choose the wrong trajectory and make a U-turn at the border of the intersection, you may end up in the oncoming lane. For the first violation of traffic rules, the minimum fine - the most lenient punishment - will be 5,000 rubles. When a repeated violation is recorded, deprivation of rights for 4-6 months is possible. One more trip into the oncoming lane will result in deprivation of your driving license for 1 year.
  2. The driver is not deprived of his license if, due to an incorrect maneuver, the car drove beyond the boundaries of the intersection of 2 roads. Only a fine of 1,500 rubles is possible.
  3. A fine of 500 rubles is issued when a vehicle is reversing or making a multi-stage turn at a T-junction. Since such actions greatly increase the risk of an emergency, another similar violation may result in deprivation of the right to drive.
  4. Your license can also be taken away for making a small-radius turn at an intersection where there is a dividing line. The period for which the right to drive is not available is 4-6 months.

In Russia it is allowed to turn right “on red”

Punishment for such a violation is regulated by Article 12.12 of the Code of Administrative Offences. The first part of it states that driving through a prohibiting traffic light signal or a prohibiting gesture by a traffic controller entails the imposition of an administrative fine in the amount of one thousand rubles. This is if you sinned for the first time. A repeated offense, according to the third part of the same article, will cost much more in every sense - a fine of five thousand rubles or deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for a period of four to six months. Even if we assume that you passed when the section allowing movement to the right was not on, you will still find yourself in violation, since you will pass without a permitting signal.

  • If the incident occurred with the participation of a pedestrian who received minor injuries, in 2021 the driver receives a fine from 2 to 5 thousand rubles or is deprived of his driver’s license for a period of 1 to 1.5 years.
  • If a pedestrian or other road user receives moderate injuries, the fine increases to 25 thousand rubles (the minimum amount will be 10 thousand rubles), and the period of deprivation of driving license begins from 1.5 to 2 years.
  • The inspector who records the violation draws up a resolution reflecting the fact of the violation.
  • The violator is released, the decision is sent to the court. The rights are not taken away.
  • The driver is sent a summons.
  • The court considers the case and imposes an administrative penalty - deprivation of rights.
  • When he raised his hand up, all vehicles should stand still.
  • When he raised his right hand up, the vehicles to his right and from his back should be standing. You can drive on the left in all directions; cars in front of the traffic controller can only drive to the right.
  • When he extended both arms to the sides or lowered them, the vehicles located in front and behind the traffic controller are prohibited from moving in any direction. Cars on the left and right can drive to the right or in a straight line.

The road sign obliges the driver to stop only at controlled intersections. Road markings require stopping at an uncontrolled intersection, but there must be a corresponding sign.

The decision to install such permitting signs, as always, will be made by the traffic police and representatives of local authorities. The next innovation in the field of road signs was the appearance of the sign “Prohibition of entry into the intersection in case of congestion.”

What is the responsibility for driving through a prohibitory traffic light this year? Is only red light this prohibiting signal? How is driving through a red light recorded and how can one appeal a decision to punish a driver for driving through such a signal, which is unlawful from the driver’s point of view?

Turn right on a red traffic light 2021

Driving through a railway crossing at a red traffic light is considered a more serious violation than the same offense at an intersection: now the driver is endangering not only himself, the passengers in the car and the car itself, but can also interfere with the movement of the train. For this violation You can immediately lose your license for a period of 3 to 6 months, and for a repeated violation - for 1 year. Entering a red lane in a reverse lane entails the imposition of an administrative fine in the amount of the same 1000 rubles.

Simultaneously burning red and yellow signals, warning that movement will soon be allowed (the green light will turn on), also prohibit movement. Drivers who are too hasty sometimes try to start on such a signal or even a little earlier, but if the inspector records this fact, then punishment and it will be fair. Another type of prohibiting signal is turning to a red light at a traffic light equipped with an additional section (clause 6.3 of the Rules).

And it's not a joke. Drivers were allowed to turn right at any traffic light, even a prohibiting one, but only where a sign appeared with a green arrow and the inscription: “Give way to everyone and you can turn right.” The intersection of Mosfilmovskaya and Kosygina streets is one of the first where it was allowed to turn on red.

When the traffic light turns red, the driver must stop at the intersection or at the stop line and not resume driving until the green light turns on. Only after this can the driver continue moving to the right, while letting everyone pass.

  1. If there is a sign, then the stop must be at an intersection that is regulated by a traffic light;
  2. The markings encourage you to stop not only at controlled intersections, but also at those where there is no regulation.

Most likely, it was introduced in order to organize the possibility of fining drivers for driving on this “dedicated lane.” Now, let us remind you that a fine for traveling on tram tracks separated by a solid marking line is punishable by a fine of 500 rubles, while a trip on a “dedicated road”, for example in the capital, will cost a fine of 3,000 rubles. In addition to these changes, the standards for road signs and markings have New images for Lane Direction, Lane Start, Lane End, and Lane Change.

  • from Velozavodskaya st. on the street Avtozavodskaya
  • from Nagatinskaya st. on Andropov Avenue
  • from 3rd Krutitsky lane. on Novospassky proezd
  • on Peasant Outpost Square from 3rd Krutitsky Lane. towards Volgogradsky Prospekt
  • from st. 1905 on Zvenigorodskoe highway.
  • from Mosfilmovskaya st. on the street Kosygina.

Traffic police fines increase significantly with repeated violations of such legal norms. Repeated offense (Part 3 of Article 12.12 of the Code of Administrative Offenses) entails a sanction in the form of a fine of 5,000 rubles or deprivation of rights from 4 to 6 months. An offense is repeated if the same illegal act was previously committed and twelve months have not yet passed from that moment.

An offense is considered committed again (repeatedly) when driving through any prohibiting traffic light signal (including a missing permitting signal). So, if for the first time a motorist drove through a red light, and then within a year made a turn at an intersection when the green arrow was “extinguished,” his offenses are considered similar.

Fines for running a red light

The punishment for a violation associated with driving through a red prohibitory signal depends on the type of this signal and whether the violation is primary or recorded repeatedly, and is determined by the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation.

So for a primary offense in accordance with Article 12.12 Part 1 of the Code, the fine for driving through a red traffic light will be 1000 rubles. But a repeated violation of the same paragraph of the Traffic Rules already applies to Part 3 of the same article of the Code: a fine of 5,000 rubles, or the driver may be deprived of the right to drive a car for a period of 4 to 6 months.

The violation is considered repeated if less than 1 year has passed since the date of entry into force of the Resolution, which determined the prosecution of the driver for the initial offense. It is very important to note here that this “limitation period” does not start counting from the moment the violation is recorded or from the moment the Resolution is issued, but precisely from the moment the fine is paid. So there is no point in delaying payment.

The same applies to deprivation of the right to drive a car: the annual period begins to be calculated not from the moment of the court decision (as many drivers believe), but from the moment the driver’s license is handed over.

It is important to note that a decision to deprive rights for a secondary violation can only be made for the same nature of that violation. If less than a year ago the driver was charged, for example, for violating the speed limit, then he cannot be deprived of his license for running a red light as for a repeated violation within a year.

The penalty for the absence of a signal allowing movement of an additional section of a traffic light is the same as the fine for a red light - 1000 rubles. It is especially important to remember this at intersections that have traffic lights with an additional section when the green light is on in the forward direction and the arrow to turn the additional section is not on. Or when turning right without a permitting signal from an additional section, even if the road in the same direction is clear.

But when entering a reverse lane when the traffic light is not working, the punishment is much more severe: 5,000 rubles, and in case of repeated violation - deprivation of rights for 1 year. The thing is that the traffic light may not work on the driver’s side, but it works on the opposite side and the situation becomes similar to driving into oncoming traffic.

The following link contains a complete table of traffic police fines, in which you can use a convenient interactive search.

Turn right on a red light 2021

Penalties can be paid:

  1. Through the bank;
  2. At the post office;
  3. Through Internet banking;
  4. Through payment terminals.

Payment of fines within the first twenty days from the date of registration of the resolution implies a discount of 50% of the original amount. This system applies to fines resulting from:

  1. Travel on red or yellow, as well as a traffic ban from the traffic controller;
  2. Violations of rules at railway crossings.

Committing a second offense within a year means paying a fine without any discounts.

If a motorist has sufficient grounds to challenge the fines, he has the right to do so through the court. The judicial authority in this case is determined by the plaintiff himself: at the place of his registration or at the location of the traffic police, whose officer issued the decision on the offense. District courts are authorized to consider such cases.

For the court, along with the statement of claim, you must provide the following documents:

  1. Protocol on administrative violation;
  2. Resolution (on imposition of penalty);
  3. Technical passport of the car;
  4. Driver license;

It should be remembered that the right to go to court is retained for ten days (from the date of execution of the decision).

A law-abiding driver must comply with the following rules:

  1. Stop the car when there is a prohibiting signal (both at an intersection and at a railway crossing);
  2. Stop driving when the signal allowing passage is extinguished;
  3. Continue driving only when a permission signal appears;
  4. Follow the traffic controller's instructions (even if they do not coincide with the light signals).
  • By car and driver
  • By resolution number

Turn Right on a Red Traffic Light 2021

In addition to the red traffic light, you cannot drive through a yellow signal; it is also prohibitive. Article 12.12 of the Code of Administrative Offenses states that for driving through a prohibiting traffic light signal or a traffic controller's gesture, administrative liability is imposed in the amount of 1,000 rubles. You also cannot drive through a combination of red and yellow lights or through a yellow light.

But it is worth noting that liability can be avoided. There are exceptions to the rules of the road, and it goes like this: if stopping at a yellow traffic light or at a traffic controller’s prohibiting gesture (raised hand) causes emergency braking, then you can drive on.

Sometimes it is impossible to reach the driver, and he continues to violate over and over again. In this case, Part 3 of Article 12.12 describes a more severe punishment for the driver of the car. A repeat offense is a traffic violation that occurs again in less than a year. For repeated offenses the following penalties are imposed:

1) This is an increase in the fine in the amount of 5,000 rubles;

2) deprivation of a driver’s license for a period of four months to six months.

In addition to the situations described above, Article 12.10 of the Code of Administrative Offenses, Part 1, describes driving through railway tracks at a prohibiting traffic light. In this case, the driver will receive a fine not only for driving through a red traffic light. The traffic police sets the following penalties:

1) A fine of one thousand rubles.

2) Deprivation of a driver’s license from four months to six months.

Cameras installed almost everywhere record traffic violations around the clock, distinguishing colors and road markings. Therefore, driving through a red traffic light, crossing the stop line and ignoring a number of other traffic rules (mainly at intersections) results in another fine.

Information from surveillance cameras is processed as soon as possible by employees of the Road Safety Center, after which the violator receives a letter notifying him of the violation, which indicates the amount of the fine received. It will not be possible to avoid the attention of the video recorder, since the camera films from several angles: the license plate number of the offender’s car can be established very easily.

The following situations are recognized as traffic violations in 2021:

  • Entering an intersection when the red signal has already turned on.
  • The car continues to move despite the traffic controller's prohibiting sign.
  • Make a right turn under the “extinguished” green arrow at the moment when the main signal is lit in red (here you need to wait until the arrow starts to glow green and only then make the turn).
  • Driving through a flashing yellow light or a red light that just turns on.
  • Moving to yellow, which turned on after flashing green.

In the latter case, the likelihood of receiving a fine increases if the driver provoked an accident by driving under a warning signal. In other cases, this is rarely recognized as a violation, since the rules allow driving under a flashing green light if the car actually does not have time to stop.

The amount of fines for driving through a red traffic light in 2021 is standard: the driver receives a receipt for payment of 1,000 rubles if the violation is primary (within 1 year) and, on the contrary, if the violation is committed repeatedly, he will have to pay 5,000 rubles. In case of a three-time violation of the rules, the driver risks being left without a driver's license for a maximum period of 6 months.

In practice, the amount of the fine may vary depending on the situation. For example, if the violation is extremely minor and no subsequent traffic accident occurs, the fine for running a red traffic light will be 1,000 rubles. If the violation is associated with an incident in which other motorists were injured, the punishment is increased, even criminal.

The fine for an accident increases to 5,000 rubles, regardless of the number of monetary sanctions already received. A committed violation is recognized by any method of recording: it could be a traffic controller or a video surveillance camera that witnessed the incident.

Only special vehicles whose passage is strategically important have the exclusive right to run on red. These include:

  • fire trucks;
  • ambulance;

All types of special vehicles are equipped with signal lights, sirens and identification marks, which not only allow driving through red lights, but oblige other road users to give way to them. For refusing to allow a special vehicle to pass, the traffic police officers have the right to fine the driver (regardless of the method of recording the offense).

What is the fine for running a red light in 2021?

Penalty for running a red light in 2021

The maximum period for paying a fine for running a red light is 60 days, including weekends and holidays. The countdown begins on the day you received the fine notice. Delay in payment by even one day leads to additional administrative liability, and the violator in this case receives either a double fine, or arrest for 15 days, or compulsory work in the amount of 50 hours.

However, in 2021, the law provides for an exception for violators who find themselves in a difficult financial situation. In this case, a citizen of Russia (the relaxation does not apply to foreigners) can receive a deferred payment for a period of up to 3 months.

In all other cases, for non-payment, the traffic police officer has the right to detain the driver and, without waiting for his consent, take him to the courthouse to consider the current issue. If the arrest took place on a weekend or holiday, the driver is sent to the nearest police department (maximum period of detention is 48 hours), after which he is immediately forwarded to court.

At the same time, the car is delivered to the impound lot, where it will remain until the debt for traffic violations is paid off. In practice, what is most often done is much simpler: within 10 days, the data on the debtor is sent to bailiffs, who forcibly collect the required amount from the offender’s account (in this case, the driver will lose another 7% of the total debt or at least 500 rubles).

Restrictions are lifted literally the next day after the debt is paid off, allowing legal movement by car. Sometimes a former debtor is faced with an extension of the restriction, which occurs due to a technical error in the work of the Road Traffic Inspectorate. In this case, you can call or contact the inspector in person to clarify the situation (as a rule, this is resolved very quickly).

You should pay special attention to traffic lights that are equipped with an additional section with a red circle. This signal informs the driver to stop because the complementary green arrow has gone out and passage is prohibited.

However, there are situations on the roads when a driver drives through a red light, completing a maneuver that began at the moment when the green light was on. In such cases, the traffic rules allow you to complete the maneuver, but under the obligatory condition - to be careful and let possible pedestrians pass.

Such driving on red cannot be considered an offence, and the resulting fine can be successfully appealed. In conclusion, let's add about another prohibitory signal - yellow, driving under which is also prohibited, but many drivers do exactly the opposite: instead of reducing the speed, they sharply increase it. Such violations are recorded on video, and the owner of the car receives a fine of 1 thousand rubles.

Pedestrians are fined RUB 500 for crossing a red light. or, if you're lucky, they only get a warning. Both an employee of the State Traffic Inspectorate and an ordinary policeman can draw up a report and impose a punishment. If a pedestrian is nevertheless fined, then he should try to pay the fine as early as possible, since during the first 20 days it will be only 250 rubles.

Officials call it temporary, but it will remain in effect for at least three more years, until the fall of 2021. The most radical innovation in the set of road signs familiar to the domestic driver will be the appearance of a sign allowing a right turn when the traffic light is red if this maneuver does not interfere with pedestrians crossing the road. In 2021, a reform of driver education was launched in our country, the results of which are being summed up only today at the end of 2021.

The main signals of a reversible traffic light can be supplemented by a yellow signal in the form of an arrow, tilted diagonally down to the right or left, the inclusion of which informs about the upcoming change of signal and the need to change lanes to which the arrow points. When the signals of the reversing traffic light, which is located above the lane marked on both sides by markings 1.9, are turned off, entry into this lane is prohibited.
