Rules for installing fog lights in Russia

Which headlight is better: white, yellow or blue? Visibility and safety

Headlights are a key point in driving safety, no matter in the city or on the highway. Depending on the weather, color will play a decisive role in visibility. If you rely on statistics, then 40-50% of drivers prefer the blue color, since it immediately stands out from the traffic, and the light itself is close to daylight, which has a great effect on less visual fatigue, but this plays exactly the other way, in rain or snow, it is the blue color that reduces the illumination of objects, to be precise, by 2-2.5 times, and this is significant. Moreover, in the rain, this color blinds not only the driver himself, but also oncoming cars. We don’t even know what’s worse, collective farm xenon or halogen lamps of this color.

Compared to blue, yellow illuminates the road almost 2 times better, especially in bad weather, but even it is inferior to white. By law, it is allowed only in fog lights, and for good reason. Those who like to argue “what’s wrong, the fog lights shine well, why don’t they put them in the head optics, the meaning is the same.” Let us answer with the unequivocal truth - the light from the fog lights is directed downward, not upward, so such light penetrates the fog, but does not illuminate the entire road; in addition, the secondary purpose of these headlights is safety, namely, so that oncoming cars can see you better, and not vice versa.

In addition, the paint sprayed onto the lamp acts as a filter, which means that part of the light flux does not pass through, and therefore the degree of maximum illumination decreases.

And if the inspector catches you, then a fine cannot be avoided, and the amount of the fine will be greater than the good lamps. It will not be possible to challenge his decision, since GOST states that low and high beam headlights must have a white tint.

If you talk about the law, then know that you will not pass the technical inspection. Although who are we kidding...

MTF Aurum

Lamps from a Korean manufacturer. Their color temperature is about 2500 Kelvin. Moreover, the lamps themselves have a chameleon-type coating on the bulb, which shimmers when rotated in the light.

This model is also capable of providing good illumination of the roadway with a pleasant yellow color. However, the quality of the product is not always stable and there are complaints from owners about the luminous flux power dropping too quickly. As for the cost of lamps, on average they ask for 1000 rubles.

Universal tips

The best color is the one provided by the manufacturer. Engineers, even at the design and testing stage, calculated the best options. Not satisfied with the level of illumination? Install more powerful lamps, for example +135% (high temperature), and do not forget to adjust the headlights and, ideally, polish them; if that doesn’t help, if it cracks, then replace it completely; you will be surprised at the effect. For AvtoVAZ this rule does not apply; as a rule, everything is very bad there.

But we won’t say anything about installing lenses, it’s more convenient for everyone.

Use good white lamps, do not pursue collective farm tuning, which endangers other road users. Another thing is, if you live in a village, then do what you want there, but not on highways and roads with traffic. Lighting is what plays a critical role in movement, not color.

Buy good light bulbs, don’t save a few hundred rubles, it’s better to overpay so as not to run into a fake and don’t put your driving comfort higher than others, in simple words - it won’t fly into you, but into you.

If the optics are completely dying, it is useless to restore the reflectors, polish them, lift them up, or insert any nuts. Light is safety, and you shouldn’t skimp on it, just like on brakes.

Is it hard to see the road? Are the headlights blinding? Clean the inside of the windshield, the cheapest way is with alcohol-containing wipes.

For those who like to glue colored film to the headlights, or lightly tint them like this, a special hello, as a rule, this type of “boyish” tuning is found wound on poles throughout the country.

Not enough light? Install an additional LED, according to GOST, you can install it as a DRL, at the level of the headlights, not higher than the level of the hood. If you order this from a well-known Chinese store, then together with installation you can spend 2000 rubles.

Penalty for blue headlights in 2021

Good afternoon, dear reader.

In this article we will talk about installing light devices with blue lights on a car, as well as possible punishment for blue headlights.

As a rule, drivers install blue lights as tuning, i.e. to improve the appearance of the car.

At the same time, blue lamps can be installed in headlights, side lights, daytime running lights, rear registration plate illumination, or as additional lighting under the bottom of the car.

Fog lights, daytime running lights and additional brake light

At the same time, the law does not prohibit retrofitting a car with additional lighting devices. But, firstly, extremely useful, and secondly, subject to established rules.

We are talking about fog lights, daytime running lights and an additional brake light, if the car was not equipped with them at the manufacturer. The rules for their installation are in the technical regulations of the Customs Union “On the safety of wheeled vehicles”. It allows the installation of two fog lights and two running lights.

The first ones should be installed no further than 40 cm from the side of the car at a height of no more than 25 cm from the road surface, but not higher than the low beam headlights. The color of their radiation is exclusively white or yellow. The use of gas-discharge lamps (“xenon”) and LEDs is not allowed.

The requirements for daytime running lights are even more modest: the visible surface area of the illuminated light must be in the range from 25 to 200 square centimeters, the color of the light must be white. In this case, the choice of installation location is left to the car owner. There can be only one additional brake signal and be located at least 60 cm above the main brake lights. Do not forget that any lighting equipment must be certified, for which there is a special marking on it. The best option is to buy products from well-known manufacturers, who solve these issues independently.

Is it possible to install blue lamps in headlights and markers?

3.6. The vehicle is equipped with:

  • in front - lighting devices with lights of any color other than white, yellow or orange, and retroreflective devices of any color other than white;
  • at the rear - reverse lights and state registration plate lights with lights of any color other than white, and other lighting devices with lights of any color other than red, yellow or orange, as well as retroreflective devices of any color other than red.

This paragraph provides an exhaustive list of permitted colors of lighting devices:

The blue color of the headlights is not mentioned at all in this paragraph, i.e. installing blue or cyan bulbs in any case is a violation .

And not an ordinary violation, but a violation in which the operation of a vehicle is prohibited.

Deprivation of rights for blue light bulbs until 2021

Until June 25, 2021, judges considered the installation of blue light bulbs as a violation falling under Part 3 of Article 12.5 of the Administrative Code:

3. Driving a vehicle on the front of which are installed lighting devices with red lights or red reflective devices, as well as lighting devices, the color of the lights and the mode of operation of which do not comply with the requirements of the Basic Regulations for the admission of vehicles to operation and the duties of safety officials traffic, -

entails deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for a period of six months to one year with confiscation of the specified instruments and accessories.

Thus, there was no monetary fine for blue lights in the parking lights or headlights. The driver immediately received a license deprivation for a period of 6 to 12 months.

What is the fine?

For all violations of the Basic Provisions of the Traffic Rules, with the exception of exceptions when a special norm of stricter liability is applied, the Administrative Code provides for one general punishment - a fine of 500 rubles or a warning under Part 1 of Article 12.5.

That is, for the color of your headlights other than white, red or orange, you will most likely be given a fine (a warning is issued very rarely). But only if we are not talking about the color red. For this reason, a special norm is applied.

Part 3 of the same article already provides for deprivation of rights for a period of six months to a year for red lights in the front of the car. Also, confiscation of lighting devices (lamps) will be applied.

Above we wrote about responsibility for driving a car with violations of the color of lamps or headlights in general. But besides this, punishment is also provided for the installation of such lighting devices - Part 1 of Article 12.4 of the Code of Administrative Offenses provides for another fine of 3,000 rubles for this. And it applies regardless of the nature of the driving violation. That is, two punishments can be imposed: the first - for management, the second - for the fact of installation itself.

But the installation still needs to be proven, because the presumption of innocence and the constitutional possibility not to testify against oneself do not oblige the driver to admit that he himself installed the red lights, even if he is the owner of the car. Therefore, punishments under this standard are rarely imposed in practice in 2021.

Please note that instead of a fine of 500 rubles, you may be deprived of your license. This has been practiced for a long time - the courts have argued that if the work schedule is violated, then Part 3 of Article 12.5 applies. But the Supreme Court put an end to this dispute, pointing out the illegality of this. However, in 2021 there are cases of deprivation of rights for inappropriate color of lights.

Penalty for blue light bulbs in 2021

On June 25, 2021, Resolution of the Plenum of the Supreme Court No. 20 was published, which contains the following paragraph in paragraph 6:

At the same time, if only the color or operating mode of the light devices installed on the vehicle does not comply with the above requirements, driving such a vehicle can be qualified under Part 1 of Article 12.5 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation.

When installing blue bulbs, only the color of the lighting fixtures changes. The operating mode does not change. Therefore, in 2021, the driver may be fined under Part 1 of Article 12.5 of the Administrative Code - 500 rubles or a warning.

This article is about installing blue light bulbs. This is due to the fact that cars with this violation can be found on Russian roads from time to time. However, information about this violation has not received wide publicity, unlike, for example, the installation of xenon or LED lamps. Therefore, few drivers who install blue lamps understand what punishment awaits them.

About a couple times a year I get questions about installing blue light bulbs. Most often, the point is that the driver wants to find out how lawfully the punishment was imposed for the wrong color of the lamps in the headlights. So I don’t recommend repeating this mistake. If your vehicle has blue or light blue bulbs, replace them with standard ones as soon as possible.

Note. The above information also applies to lighting devices of other non-standard colors : green, purple, brown. However, such options are much less common.

Car enthusiasts and car non-enthusiasts, I have a question for you.

With the beginning of autumn, I decided to improve the headlights to make it more comfortable to drive on wet and muddy roads. Collective farm xenon, halogens for xenon and other crap I immediately dismissed - I don’t need these useless show-offs. I decided to take yellow lamps, since I had lamps with yellow glass in my fogs since the summer, and I was pleased with their light. In stores I was offered two options: lamps with chameleon glass (yellowish-bluish) and lamps with just yellow glass. I decided to take both options for comparison, I bought Osram Allseason (chameleons) and Lynx lamps with yellow glass. The light of yellow lamps in the headlights looks better than the light of a chameleon (it gives a purple tint at the bottom of the headlight), but in my opinion, the chameleon illuminates wet asphalt better. And I was already thinking about leaving the chameleons until the end of autumn, but then I came across a post where a guy told how the guys got to him for such lamps (https://www.drive2.ru/b/4062246863888211801/). I googled it and found other similar cases. I went to smoke materiel and smoked the following:

1. Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation, art. 12.4 clause 1

: Installation on the front of the vehicle of lighting devices with red lights or red reflective devices, as well as lighting devices, the color of the lights and the mode of operation of which do not comply with the requirements of the Basic Provisions for the admission of vehicles to operation and the duties of officials to ensure road safety , —

2. Appendix, List of faults and conditions under which the operation of vehicles is prohibited

:

clause 3.6 The following is installed on the vehicle:

in front - lighting devices with lights of any color other than white, yellow or orange, and retroreflective devices of any color other than white;

at the rear - reverse lights and state registration plate lights with lights of any color other than white, and other lighting devices with lights of any color other than red, yellow or orange, as well as retroreflective devices of any color other than red.

3. State standard of the Russian Federation GOST R 41.48-2004 (UNECE Rules No. 48) “Uniform regulations regarding the certification of vehicles regarding the installation of lighting and light signaling devices”

clause 5.15 Colors of lights emitted by headlights: - high beam and low beam headlights white - front fog lamp white or yellow

Thus, it is not clear what to stick to. In a driving school, for example, they don’t give GOST standards, and traffic regulations don’t divide headlights into low/high beam/PTF. Hence the question: is it possible to drive with chameleons, or even just yellow lamps, without fear of traffic cops? Or is this already a violation? Maybe someone who has encountered this can share their experience! Thank you in advance.

Is it possible to turn on the PTF during the day and drive with them?

Yes. In all cases and under any conditions - weather, light, road, temperature, humidity and the like.

What do the Road Traffic Rules current for 2019 say about this? We only need 2 points from section 19:

  1. during daylight hours, all cars must drive only with daytime running lights or low beam headlights on (it would seem, what does PTF have to do with this?!) - clause 19.5 of the traffic rules,
  2. fog lights can be used instead of low beam headlights in accordance with clause 19.5 of the Rules - this is already prescribed by clause 19.4.

As you can see, everything is quite simple - during the day you are required to turn on either low beam, DRL, or fog lights instead of the previous 2 types of road lighting.

Above we talked about the possibility of driving using fog lights. Yes, they can be turned on during the day. However, it is not always possible to drive only with them - there are cases when it is additionally necessary to use other lights along with PTF.

But there are conditions!

Traffic regulations clearly prescribe in what cases which types of head and rear lights must be turned on in certain situations. And in this case, even if you can drive during the day with fog lights, the following lights must be used in addition to them.

In particular, the Rules regulate the following situations during the daytime:

  • in case of insufficient visibility (fog, rain, snow and other conditions in which road visibility is less than 300 meters), you can drive with fog lights, but the low or high beam headlights must also be turned on,
  • The same rule applies in the tunnel,
  • if you stop on an unlit section of the road in conditions of the same insufficient visibility, you need to turn on the side lights in addition to the fog lights (and you can also additionally have a rear fog light or low beam headlights).

How do fog lights work on all cars?

To be more precise, not on all Russian roads, but on those that comply with the Technical Regulations of the Customs Union on the safety of wheeled vehicles.

This regulatory act prescribes that PTFs can only work in cases where the following are included:

  • Dimensions - front and rear of cars,
  • rear license plate lamp.

That is, on vehicles that are legally supplied to our country and have a Russian title, which in itself means that they comply with the Technical Regulations, fog lights will not work without the lights on and the rear warning lights on. This is prescribed by paragraphs 1.9 and 1.10 of Appendix 3 of this document:

1.9. The functional electrical circuit must be such that the front and rear position lamps and the rear license plate lamp can be turned on and off simultaneously.

1.10. The functional electrical circuit must be such that the high and low beam lights and the front fog light can only be turned on if the lights specified in paragraph 1.9 are also turned on.

How to avoid a fine for headlights? Requirements for lighting devices

Traffic rules regulate a variety of aspects of the use of motor vehicles.
This also applies to lighting devices such as headlights and signal lights. After all, the safety of all road users depends on their correct operation. Today, many drivers are interested in the question: what is the fine for violating the use of lighting devices? Is it possible to avoid a fine and how to contribute to this? We will consider these and many other issues related to the use of car headlights in this article.

What is the penalty for failure to comply with the required requirements?

For daytime running lights

Based on traffic regulations, the use of DRLs is mandatory in the following cases :

  • transportation of minor children;
  • riding a motor vehicle;
  • transportation of oversized or dangerous and explosive substances;
  • on minibuses and public transport.

According to Article 19 of the Traffic Regulations, paragraph 19.5, all drivers while driving in the city and on the highway are required to turn on DRLs or low beam lights, or fog lights. If these requirements are met, adequate safety for pedestrians and other motorists on the road will be ensured.

If these requirements are not met, the fine for violation will be 500 rubles (Article 12.20 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation).

12.20 article of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation. Violation of the rules for using external lighting devices, sound signals, hazard warning lights or warning triangles

Violation of the rules for using external lighting devices, sound signals, hazard warning lights or warning triangles - entails a warning or the imposition of an administrative fine in the amount of five hundred rubles.

Turn signals not included

Before performing various maneuvers in any situation, the driver undertakes to turn on the turn signals, regardless of whether there are other cars on the road.

Responsibility for violating the rules of maneuvering is based on Part 1 of Article 12.14 of the Code of Administrative Offenses, which states that for this traffic violation the driver:

  1. give a warning;
  2. or a fine of 500 rubles is issued.

Read more about the fine for not turning on the turn signal and driving in the wrong direction here.

Low beam off

Since 2010, drivers have been required to drive with low beams on at all times, day and night. According to Article 12.20 of the Administrative Code, the amount of the fine issued for headlights without low beams on will be 500 rubles .

Inoperative or driving with one faulty

  • the violator pays a fine of 500 rubles due to a faulty or dirty lighting device;
  • or the driver may be limited to a verbal warning.

Installation of light bulbs of blue and other colors in dimensions

According to paragraphs of Article 3 of the Traffic Regulations, the list of acceptable colors of lighting devices is as follows :

  1. At the front of the vehicle, white, yellow or orange colors are acceptable.
  2. Only red, yellow and orange devices are installed at the rear of the vehicle.
  3. When illuminating the rear license plate and reversing lights, only white can be used.

The blue color is not indicated in this paragraph, because installing blue or blue light bulbs is an offense in which the operation of vehicles is prohibited in accordance with Part 3 of Article 12.5 of the Code of Administrative Offenses, which specifies the permitted colors.

The presence of lighting devices whose color and mode of operation of the lights contradicts road safety requirements guarantees deprivation of rights for a period of 6-12 months with confiscation of these devices and devices (12.5 of the Administrative Code).

Using non-standard xenon

The light from xenon lamps can blind drivers in oncoming and passing lanes. This happens when using xenon lamps with “halogen” reflectors, in which case it is directed anywhere but onto the road.

They can also interfere with neighboring and oncoming cars and cause discomfort to their drivers. With xenon bulbs, the car has very bright lighting. The light becomes more intense, but due to unsuitable reflectors, xenon headlights do not illuminate the road as they should . The light falls very close to the car itself, which significantly worsens the illumination of the road.

In this case, paragraph 3.4 of Article 3 of the Traffic Regulations is applied, indicating the absence of lenses or the use of lenses and lamps that do not correspond to the type of this lighting device. Despite the absence of a fine for the use of non-standard xenon, its installation, one way or another, is a violation of the specified traffic rules.

The inspector needs to carry out an inspection in accordance with Part 1 of Article 27.9 of the Code of Administrative Offenses to be completely convinced that the “left” xenon is actually installed.

Installation of LED lamps

In this case, paragraph 3.1 of Article 3 of the Traffic Regulations is taken into account. Malfunctions and conditions under which there is no right to use transport.

The number, type, color, location and operating mode of external lighting devices do not meet the design requirements of the vehicle itself. Punishments for such a violation are provided for in paragraph 3 of Article 12.5 of the Code of Administrative Offenses :

  • For installing LED bulbs in halogen headlights, you will be deprived of your license for 6-12 months.
  • When completely replacing halogen headlights with LED ones, a violation of paragraph 3.1 of Article 3 of the Traffic Regulations is provided. The fine for diode bulbs in headlights will be 500 rubles.

Which headlights are yellow or blue?

October 7, Monday, 2013

Every motorist needs good additional lighting in adverse weather. But which light should you choose? Which one is better? And why were colored light bulbs banned? Blue and yellow colors are obtained by spraying special transparent paints by the manufacturer himself. You need to know that the big myth is that blue light bulbs are less hard on the eyes and less tiring, is no longer true. In the end, it turned out that the use of these headlights is very dangerous both for the driver and for the people around him. All this is due to the fact that the illumination of these bulbs is much lower, and the signs on the roads are less noticeable. And if the weather is bad, cloudy and pouring heavy rain, then driving on the road with such light is generally prohibited. There is a risk of the driver being blinded by the reflection of snowflakes and even raindrops. Recently, the use of yellow light bulbs has been banned, because the light from such headlights is much worse than white light. However, they did not completely abandon the yellow color. It is used in fog lamps. But, you should know that the task of lighting is not the light, but the direction in which it shines. The location of the fog lights is such that the light falls under the fog and as a result they illuminate the road. And it doesn’t matter at all what color it will be - yellow or white. If it suddenly turns out that at least one headlight is not on, then it is absolutely impossible to drive out onto the road. You must make all necessary efforts to quickly and efficiently eliminate this malfunction. Replacing a burnt out light bulb is not difficult or difficult. You just need to open the car hood, remove the protective cover and then disconnect the contacts. Next, you must remove the clamps, insert a new lamp after removing the old one. Be sure to check that the lamp fits tightly and does not blind oncoming drivers. So, let’s conclude: lamps of different colors shine completely differently, even though they have the same power. This happens due to the fact that the paint simply does not allow some of the light to pass through. The law prohibits driving with such headlights. If it suddenly happens that your lamp burns out, then to fix this problem it is not at all necessary, one might even say it is not necessary, to contact a service center. This procedure can be done very simply and quickly yourself. We should not forget that headlights require timely adjustment. This is an important condition when passing technical inspection and maintaining your safety.

Which headlight is better - white or yellow? Blog › Select yellow

After using Koito White Beam III H7 white lamps last year, or rather after this torment, and then after using the collective farm xenon, I clearly decided for myself that the low beam lamps should be bright yellow for better visibility in any weather conditions. I skated autumn, winter and spring with Koito. Guys, if you want normal lighting, don’t even think about buying these expensive lamps. They don't shine at all even on slightly damp asphalt. And if it’s raining decently, you don’t have to turn on the headlights at all; it makes no difference whether they’re on or off. Then yellow spectrum lamps in PTF brand MTF Aurum came to my aid. I installed them with increased power of 55W versus 35W standard. Report . By the way, they shine clearly better than the standard ones, and were very useful in last year’s bad weather. A year later I can say that nothing has melted, everything works as before. After a little experience with xenon in the summer, I decided for myself that xenon should only be standard. No collective farm stuff. Therefore, I started choosing lamps with a yellow spectrum of light. I chose between Osram all season, MTF Aurum, IPF XY73 YELLOW. There are a lot of reviews about the first lamps, but there are also quite a few negative ones, allegedly the emission spectrum of these lamps is only slightly different from the standard ones. But I really wanted bright yellow lamps. I’m already familiar with the MTF, they are parked in fog lights. The lamps are Korean and not bad, but there is one drawback that bothers me a little. The light from them is pale yellow, and the lamp in the headlight shimmers with all the colors of the rainbow when working. No color uniformity. I don’t know how it is in the lenses, but in the fog lights they look exactly like that, shimmering with incomprehensible colors. Next is the Japanese IPF. According to reviews, the lamps are very cool, the color of the glow is exactly what we would like. But they are unreasonably expensive (2500 rubles). And like all other lamps, consuming 55W and supposedly shining at 110W, they quickly burn out. I don’t know, maybe later I’ll kill the toad and buy these, but not yet. While reading another review about Osram Alsison on some website, I came across a comparison with Hella Yellow lamps, and as the author described, he liked the latter much more. Apart from this review, I couldn’t find any information on Hell lamps anywhere else. The brand is well-known and good, so I decided to try it. I found the code and ordered it from Exist. A pair of lamps cost 500 rubles. Full name of the lamps H7 Hella lamp 12V 55W yellow spectrum Yellow (PX26d), order code 8GH 007 157-481

The lamp bulb, as in the case of MTF and Osram, is yellow, but unlike MTF, the spectrum is uniform, bright lemon yellow, not pale like MTF.

I have been testing these lamps since the end of summer and I can say the following: in dry weather, the illumination from these lamps is slightly better than standard ones. But with the arrival of bad weather, all the delights of Hell's lamps begin to appear. It works just fine. The wet asphalt illuminates very well. The brightness of the lamps, in my opinion, is greater than that of the standard ones. Compared with the standard light of the LEDs and downstream neighbors. I noticed that the light spot became closer to the bumper, and there was no longer a need to turn on the PTF. And without them everything is visible perfectly. In general, I’m pleased with the lamps, in the future I’ll probably install the same ones in the rotary and long range ones.

The most correct glow color, close to real

In general, back in the spring I thought about how to slightly improve the illumination of the road with low-beam headlights. In principle, there were enough standard lamps; there were Osram lamps with ordinary transparent glass bulbs, but I would like to see the potholes on the roads better. Since I am not a supporter of farming with xenon, and higher power halogen lamps are bad for standard headlights and the eyes of oncoming drivers, all that remains is to try lamps with increased light output. After reading reviews on the Internet, I bought Japanese Koito lamps with a luminous flux temperature of 4200K, they shine with white light

after installing these lamps and a test night ride on unlit roads, it became clear that for 1,700 rubles I only received a beautiful white light if you look at the headlights from the side, the illumination of the road did not improve, and even became a little worse, on the highway there was light from oncoming or But passing cars are interrupted by the light from my headlights, even when I turned on the high beam (there are factory standard lamps there), the low beam somehow dissolved in the yellowish tint of the high beam. Driving with such light is generally tolerable, but with standard lamps it was a little more comfortable in terms of the fact that there was less strain on the eyes on unlit country roads, and in the rain with white lights you generally drive blind, only one road marking is visible, and only if there is one. In the rain, the fog lights were a good saver; I have yellow IPF 2400K lamps installed there.

they shine with a frankly yellow light and illuminate the road in the same lemon-yellow way, and yet fog lights should be fog lights, not flashlights, such lamps should, in theory, be installed from the factory on all cars equipped with fog lights))) With the onset of autumn, rains and shorter daylight hours, it became finally clear that Koito lamps were not suitable for me and it was decided to change them to cheaper OSRAM ALLSEASON with a slightly yellowish bulb (compared to the lamps in the fog lights).

These lamps are not expensive, 300-350 rubles. PC. and as it turned out, they illuminated the road very well with a pleasant yellowish tint, the side of the road immediately became clearly visible, the illumination along the entire contour of the light spot on the road seemed to become wider than with Koito, with white light the extreme points of the light spot on the asphalt were somehow pale. I haven’t driven in the rain yet, but I think that the road will be better illuminated than with koito, which, to be honest, disappointed me, I expected more from them, but maybe they are just not for me, since many people write that koito shine amazingly and better than standard lamps. I’ll probably buy a couple more all-weather lamps as a spare.

Choosing the color of headlights - what is possible, what is not

GOST standards stipulate that high and low beams of standard lighting equipment must have a white tint. But xenon and halogen lamps, as well as conventional standard optics, have been replaced by LED headlights, which provide yellow light without blinding the driver of an oncoming car. In addition, LED-based headlights provide better visibility in bad weather at night, highlighting the car in the fog and making it more visible. And this is a completely different level of security.

The effectiveness of fog lights depends on the color of the luminous flux. Modern ones are allowed for installation as additional lighting, and many car owners integrate them just at the level of head optics. The use of yellow is because it is directly related to the wavelength of the yellow hue. This property provides improved illumination, and since fog lights can be used with low beam headlights, in case of poor visibility, drivers turn them on, providing themselves with a good view.

Along with yellow fog lights, white ones are also used, which have a greater illumination range and, along with yellow ones, are better able to “pierce” a thick layer of fog. Manufacturers producing PTF today mostly use this color. Greenish, red and blue fog lights cope with lighting worse and, from a functionality point of view, have long since faded into the background. When choosing a color, it is worth remembering that fog lights are still a source of additional, not primary light. Therefore, to the question of which color of headlights is better - white or yellow, the answer will be clear. White color is preferable, and it is also allowed by regulations.

Is it possible or not?

Now we are gradually approaching the answer to the main question.

Motorists are afraid of getting a fine, but at the same time they want to improve visibility conditions by driving their own car. What's the best way to proceed?

Despite popular belief, the use of yellow spectrum lamps in front optics is not prohibited.

Here you should understand what is called front or head optics.

It is indeed prohibited to install yellow lamps in high or low beam according to the rules prescribed in the traffic rules, as well as in the technical regulations. If you look at the Technical Regulations, there is Appendix 7, clause 3.1. It clearly states that the use of yellow light bulbs in the country is permitted only as part of anti-fog optics. And as you know, fog lights are installed front and rear. That is, it is allowed to install such lamps in the front of the car. Only if it is not high beam or low beam.

Everything is quite clear here.

The optics responsible for high and low beam should only be in the white spectrum.

By the way, the idea of installing a color protective film should also be abandoned. By giving the main headlights a yellowish tint, you will most likely be stopped and fined for technical non-compliance.

If you look at the Code of Administrative Offenses related to traffic rules, paragraph 3.6 states that the use of yellow, orange and white spectrum lamps is allowed in the front part. Here it is also allowed to use yellow lights on the rear optics.
