Snowmobile driver's license. What licenses are needed for an ATV and snowmobile? Registration and technical inspection of self-propelled vehicles

Category of rights to drive a snowmobile

Snowmobile owners often ask specialists the question: “Do you need a driver’s license to drive a snowmobile and why?” – they answer that this equipment is equipped with a power unit, a seat and a steering wheel, therefore it is a “self-propelled vehicle” (TS). Such vehicles are subject to rules, according to which you need to know which category of license for an ATV and snowmobile is required. These two vehicles fall into the category of self-propelled vehicles that, in certain situations and if used incorrectly, can cause harm to people and nature.

It is important to know what license is needed to drive a snowmobile, because the main categories accepted for driving a vehicle do not provide permission to drive on public roads. There is only one category for ATVs and snowmobiles - these are “self-propelled vehicles”, which cannot move on regular roads along with others, because... their maximum speed is 50 km/h.

Is a separate category needed?

Which category (CAT) is needed for snowmobiles? This type of off-road vehicle is defined by CAT - A1, and it also includes other vehicles, for example: swamp vehicles, all-terrain vehicles, ATVs. Such vehicles have a steering wheel and seat, like a regular motorcycle, but they have different design options and purposes. The operation of such mechanisms is permitted by a tractor operator license (Tractor-Machine License) with category A1.

The need for an ATV license

Let's figure out what kind of transport this is, which is also called an all-terrain vehicle. This is a motorized vehicle that has 4 wheels and is not intended for movement in the city or on public roads. However, even if traffic police stop you on a country road, they will have legal grounds to punish you in accordance with the law.

According to the Decree of the Government of the Russian Federation dated October 23, 1993 No. 1090 “On the Rules of the Road,” the driver is required to carry with him and hand over to the police a driver’s license and documents for the vehicle.

But if you do not have a license, they have the right to punish you in accordance with the Administrative Code of the Russian Federation, Art. 12.7 part 1 . Namely, a fine of 5 thousand rubles. — 15 thousand rubles.

In the case of motor vehicles, just like with a car, there are requirements for the driver. This is stated in the Decree of the Government of the Russian Federation of July 12, 1999 N 796 “On approval of the Rules for admission to driving self-propelled machines and issuing tractor operator (tractor driver) licenses”:

ATV or quadricycle - is there a difference?

The quadricycle resembles a small car:

Most often they have a roof, a sofa or an armchair, like in a car, and a car-type steering wheel.

The photo shows an example of a vehicle that belongs to quadricycles - the Soviet motorized stroller SMZ S3D, or, as it was popularly called, a wheelchair.

An ATV has more in common with a motorcycle, despite having 4 wheels. For example, it also has a motorcycle seat and control handles. However, there are also distinctive features:

Obtaining a snowmobile license

To obtain a certificate, the candidate must submit a set of documents to the regional inspection of the State Technical Supervision:

  • passport;
  • photo 3x4 – two pieces;
  • sample application;
  • UTM (if issued previously);
  • receipt of payment of state duty;
  • certificate of completion of training at a driving school;
  • driver's license (if you have one);
  • medical certificate (with information);
  • Having successfully passed the examination test, the driver receives a tractor driving license of category “A1” for a period of 10 years.

The “Special Markings” section in the resulting UTM is filled in with information of a different nature (permissive or restrictive). Typically, this column contains data indicating the use of glasses for poor vision. The following information is indicated: blood type, total work experience, as well as medical restrictions prohibiting the opening of other categories.

For information: it may be unclear what category the snowmobile belongs to - “A” or “A1”. It is interesting to know that a driver's license with a valid CAT motorcycle "A" has nothing in common with CAT "A1" for driving self-propelled equipment. In accordance with the law, a driver with an “A” must undergo training at a driving school and pass an exam at the State Inspectorate for Motorcycle Registration. However, in this situation, the certification process is simplified - the candidate is exempt from the theory of traffic rules.

Exceptions to the general rules apply to owners of motorcycles who received a license with open CAT “A” before January 1, 2000. They do not need to take an examination test to register "A1". The driver must contact the nearest State Technical Supervision Inspectorate with an application for the issuance of “A1” and provide the necessary set of documents.

Step-by-step instructions for obtaining rights

If it turns out that you don’t have the required driving license for this type of vehicle, then you need to know how to get a license to drive a snowmobile. What category is needed for a snowmobile is now known - category A. If you manage to get the right to drive a snowmobile, then in the future you will be able to drive an ATV. If the owner imagines how to obtain a license to drive a car, then there should be no difficulties in obtaining a license to drive a snowmobile.

Where to contact?

In order to obtain permission to drive a snowmobile, you need to pass exams at Gostekhnadzor. And this authority is the only one that accepts exams of this kind. To do this, you need to know the theoretical part, as well as be able to show your skills in practice.

List of documents

You need to familiarize yourself with the list of documents that need to be collected and submitted:

  • you need to write an application with the intention of obtaining a certificate;
  • passport or other identity document;
  • medical certificate;
  • if you have a tractor driver’s license, then you also need to attach it;
  • two photographs measuring 3 by 4 cm;
  • if you have a driver's license, present it too;
  • You must have a receipt for payment of the duty.

Procedure

Now let's take a closer look at what the driver should do. As mentioned, you need to undergo training at a special institution. But the exam itself must be taken at Gostekhnadzor. What is the exam? First of all, you need to learn the theory and pass it according to the tickets. It is advisable to do this the first time, but if even after three attempts it was not possible to do it, then you will have to study in a forced form. If only the first attempt fails, then after a week you have the opportunity to retake the exam. A document stating that the theoretical part has been passed is valid for three months.

Once this part of the exam is passed, you can take the practical part. You must demonstrate your ability to operate this equipment. You must be able to perform the following actions:

  • the ability to brake at different speeds;
  • moving along an overpass;
  • you need to show the ability to turn around in a confined space;
  • Does the student know how to reverse into a confined space?

It is imperative to prepare all the documents required for issuing a certificate.
You need to prepare a medical certificate in advance. If all documents are in order and the exam is passed, then a certificate is issued. Usually this is a tractor driver's license. A license for a snowmobile is issued, category A1 – a category that allows you to drive motor vehicles. What are the categories of driving license? Read on our website.

Cost of obtaining a category

The fee set by the state is 500 rubles when receiving a certificate with category A1. Payment of this fee is carried out either on the government services website, or at a bank branch, or through a terminal or mobile application. All details can be found on the Gostekhnadzor website. If you know in which department you will take the exam, then this information is enough to pay through the Sberbank cash desk or through the State Services website.

But how much will the training itself cost? It all depends on what region of the country a person lives in. It also all depends on the extent to which the snowmobile owner is familiar with this equipment and driving rules. If you have no knowledge at all, then you need to complete a full course of training.

When taking a theoretical course, the cost ranges from 5,000 rubles to 10,000 rubles. If you need to take both a theoretical and a practical course, the cost will increase to 10,000 rubles. All figures are approximate and vary depending on the region. There is also the opportunity to complete training remotely. The cost varies from 9,000 to 15,000 rubles.

Training per category

If a person is well versed in this matter, then practically nothing prevents him from going and taking the exam. Usually this is not difficult for such people. In another case, you can get all the necessary skills and knowledge by paying for training. The methods of training and what skills you need to have are described above.

Do I need to register my snowmobile?

When purchasing a snowmobile, a potential owner should know that he is purchasing self-propelled equipment, which requires special attention and responsibility. Devices with an engine capacity of more than 50 cm3 must be registered with the regional Gostekhnadzor. In this case, if the vehicle reaches a speed of more than 20 km/h, the owner must register an MTPL policy.

Quite often, buyers who bought a snowmobile for trips to the village do not consider it necessary to spend time and money on its registration. This position is wrong and can cause problems for the happy owner of the vehicle:

  1. The theft of an unregistered snowmobile can be an unresolved problem for the owner. The device will be difficult to find, since it does not have a personal number and is not included in the database. Criminals like to steal such equipment because they can later register the snowmobile and sell it.
  2. Fine. Operating an unregistered vehicle may result in the owner being subject to a serious fine or losing his or her license to operate an ATV, snowmobile or other vehicle for 1 year.
  3. Contract of sale. Traffic police and Gostekhnadzor employees conducting raids carefully check the documents for the equipment. To ride an illegal vehicle, the owner will always have to carry a document with him and each time prove that the newly purchased snowmobile is simply moving from one point to another.

Snowmobiles with an engine displacement of more than 50 cm3 or an electric motor power of more than four kilowatts must be registered no later than ten days after purchase.

Registration procedure

The owner of the vehicle or an authorized person acting on his behalf must contact the territorial body of the State Technical Supervision with the following documents:

  • vehicle owner's passport;
  • PSM (self-propelled vehicle passport)
  • receipt of payment of state duty;
  • application for registration of a vehicle model;
  • quality certificate of conformity for equipment;
  • MTPL policy (for models with speeds over 20 km/h);
  • contract for the purchase of equipment (signed no later than 10 days before the application);
  • Certificate of registration (if the vehicle was already in the state).

The owner must present the snowmobile to the inspection agency and, if the vehicle is in good condition and is not registered as stolen, he must apply for a certificate and license plates. Numbering units - type No. 3 are attached to the body, in accordance with GOST, at the rear so that their viewing does not block the rest of the snowmobile.

Registration and maintenance costs

In general, the cost of the procedure for registering self-propelled equipment on the state account is 2,350 rubles. It includes:

  • issuance of state signs - 1,500 rubles;
  • registration of the right to a snowmobile or ATV at a price of 500 rubles;
  • registration plate in PSM - approximately 355 rubles.

In addition, based on the results of State Registration, the owner must pay a fee, the price of which is 400-500 rubles.

In the future, the owner is obliged to carry out maintenance (MOT) of his snowmobile once a year according to the rules regulated by Resolution No. 1013 Ch. 11/13/2013 “On the technical inspection of self-propelled vehicles.” In this regard, he must pay an annual state fee and submit an application to the territorial divisions of Gostekhnadzor to conduct a technical inspection.

Technical inspection can be carried out at the location of the vehicle. According to the law, the Gostekhnadzor inspector does not have the right to refuse to conduct an on-site technical inspection. It is only necessary to approve the date and time of the procedure together with him.

Is registration required?

Off-road vehicle registration is required for several reasons:

  1. Driving without a license is punishable by a fine of 500–800 rubles. first time, repeat - 5 thousand rubles. or suspension from driving a vehicle for 1–3 months.
  2. If a snowmobile is not included in a unified database, it will be difficult to find it if it is stolen.
  3. When selling, difficulties will arise with the execution of the contract.

Important! If the snowmobile has an engine capacity of more than 50 cc. see, registration is required.

Certificates are not issued for vehicles with a smaller volume and those independently assembled from units and spare parts.

Ask a Question

Within 10 days after purchasing a snowmobile, visit the Gostekhnadzor office. The inspector is presented with an identity card, technical passport, document confirming ownership. If you are not the first owner of the vehicle, then you need a certificate with a mark on deregistration of the vehicle, which can be issued by both the seller and the buyer.

They fill out an application, pay a fee for the state number of 1.5 thousand rubles, for a certificate - 500 rubles, for a mark in the registration certificate - 350 rubles. The same amount is paid upon deregistration.

A vehicle that is the property of an individual is registered by registration, a legal vehicle is registered at the location of the company.

A snowmobile manufactured less than a year ago does not require technical inspection. If it is older, then the condition assessment procedure is carried out by a Gostekhnadzor inspector at the place indicated by him, where the applicant is obliged to deliver the car.

The collected and submitted package of documents is checked for compliance and absence of restrictions. If there are no comments, the owner of the vehicle is given a registration certificate, license plate number, technical certificate, and registration certificate with a mark.

Important! The owner of a snowmobile is obliged to pay a transport tax annually and provide transport for technical inspection.

When going on the road, they take with them a license with category A1, a maintenance coupon, and a certificate confirming registration.

What to do if you don’t have a license for a snowmobile

The owner of such a vehicle, in the absence of registration, will not even be able to sell the device. Therefore, you will have to register it first and pay a fine if registration was not completed on time. In addition, if the owner sells an unregistered snowmobile, the vehicle loses significant value, and the new owner faces the hassle of having to explain to government authorities that he purchased an illegal all-terrain vehicle.

It is not uncommon for citizens on snowmobiles to try to escape when they see inspectors on and off-road. A pursuit can have dire consequences for both the driver and the vehicle.

It is much calmer and safer to drive a registered vehicle. According to the Russian Federation Regulations dated August 12, 1994, registration of self-propelled vehicles with government agencies is carried out by the owner ten days after their acquisition.

What penalties are possible when using a snowmobile without a license?

In 2013, changes occurred in the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation due to amendments that increased the amount of monetary compensation for offenses.

The fines that snowmobile owners may face if they are used improperly are identical to those that apply if motorists violate traffic rules.

CircumstancesFine
Operating a vehicle without a licenseViolation entails a fine on the owner in the amount of 2.5 thousand rubles. Having a driver's license of a different category at that time does not exempt him from punishment. Cars can be sent to the parking lot, from where the car owner himself can pick them up after presenting the UTM with category A1.
Registration missingIf the state registration rules were violated, administrative liability is imposed on the driver on the basis of Part 1 of Art. 19.22 Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation. The owner of an illegal off-road vehicle is subject to a fine ranging from 1.5 thousand to 2 thousand rubles. The fine is higher for officials - from 2 thousand to 3 thousand, for legal entities it reaches 10 thousand.
Driving a snowmobile without state license platesThis offense applies to those vehicles that must undergo state registration. Even if the vehicle is located on the territory of the state, but its operation is carried out without registration marks, the driver is punished with a fine in the amount of 500 to 5 thousand rubles or deprivation of the right to drive any equipment for a period of one to three months.
No technical inspection ticketIf the equipment does not pass the annual technical inspection, the owner is punished with a fine of 800 rubles. Repeated violations may result in deprivation of your driver's license for a period of 1 to 3 months. The Gostekhnadzor inspector has the right to revoke the violator’s Technical Inspection Certificate in accordance with Articles 32.5 and 32.6 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation.
Driving while intoxicatedA driver who drives his snowmobile while drunk will pay 30 thousand rubles to the state budget. In addition, he will be deprived of his driver's license for all types of transport for a period of 1.5 to 2 years. In this case, his vehicles will be placed in a special parking lot.

Special control of inspecting government agencies carries out checks on the implementation of the law on environmental protection. There is a ban on the use of snowmobiles when hunting. For this offense, the driver bears a monetary penalty and criminal liability under Art. 258 of the Criminal Code.

Hunting on snowmobiles is permitted only if the activity of the snowmobiler limits the quantitative growth of individual predators. A special permit is required for this purpose, including the necessary conditions.

Management training

Driving a self-propelled vehicle requires special knowledge and skills that come from the driver during training. Training can be completed in educational institutions licensed to carry out such activities. Students are trained in special vocational education programs or additional vocational education programs.

Since the end of autumn 2015, independent training of citizens for registration of UTM outside a driving school is not allowed.

Training lasts 3-4 weeks at the training center. This time is enough for students to listen to lectures on a theoretical course, including the basics of traffic rules and rules for operating snowmobiles. The trainee must know the nuances of the machine and a complete list of its breakdowns. For any malfunction that occurs far from the city or in the absence of means of communication, the driver should not have problems resolving it in the future.

After passing the test at the educational institution, the candidate must confirm that he has learned. After this, you need to pass a full exam at Gostekhnadzor to obtain UTM subcategory A1. The examination test contains two parts – theory and practice.

Theory

If the candidate has the necessary skill and can pass the exam without undergoing practical classes, then the driving school allows him to take only the theory. However, it is advisable to take at least one driving lesson to understand what skills and abilities will be demonstrated in the Gostekhnadzor exam.

At the theoretical stage, students are prepared using tickets that are approved by the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation.

This stage of the exam is a test of:

  • knowledge of the basics of traffic rules;
  • understanding of the technical structure of a snowmobile;
  • knowledge of the rules for the safe operation of vehicles and options for providing first aid in various accidents.

Passing the exam is not difficult for those candidates who attend lectures and study tickets. It is difficult to purchase exam tickets but they are available online. Successful passing of the theory gives access to the practical part of the exam, which is valid for three months. If the candidate does not pass the practical part of the exam during this period, he must repeat the test.

If the candidate does not pass the theoretical part, he has the right to repeat this test after a week. Having received negative results for the theoretical part of the test three times, the student returns to training courses at the driving school.

Practice

The practical part of the test consists of two stages: driving a snowmobile on the highway and on city roads. The first stage is simple:

  1. Demonstration of the candidate’s ability to perform basic exercises on cars in artificial confined space conditions.
  2. Entrance to the box in the background, navigation through the mirrors.
  3. Driving a snowmobile with a trailer.
  4. Turning around in a confined space.
  5. Emergency braking and stopping 15 cm before the stop line when driving at different speeds.
  6. Entrance to the overpass.

The second part of the practical exam is carried out in the city in compliance with all traffic rules of the Russian Federation and safety standards. The expert evaluates the candidate’s ability to maneuver a self-propelled vehicle in traffic, as well as control the situation on the road and react to it accurately.

In case of failure of the practical test, the candidate is scheduled to retake it, no earlier than a week after the unsuccessful pass. A candidate who fails the practical part of the exam three times will be required to receive additional lessons at a driving school. In this case, in the event of a subsequent re-examination, the student must submit a certificate from the educational institution confirming completion of the course of study. The procedure for passing the exam in state technical supervision bodies is reflected in paragraphs 20 and 21 of Resolution 796.

Who can conduct exams

The examination commission for issuing UTM is headed by a Gostekhnadzor specialist with specialized training.

The specialist must meet certain requirements:

  • age - over 23 years;
  • the presence of a UTM of the category where it administers the exam;
  • relevant higher or secondary technical education.

In case of poor-quality provision of services by the Gostekhnadzor inspection, for example, a specialist refuses to accept documents, violates deadlines, demands additional certificates and certificates, as well as payment, or improper behavior of employees is observed, the candidate can file a claim with higher authorities and the court.

The complaint can be delivered in person, posted in a special section of the Civil Service portal or sent by mail, and it is considered by government authorities within 30 days after its registration.

How to pass the exam at Gostekhnadzor

In general, the examination test is similar to a similar procedure in the traffic police, but there are differences:

  • the exam is divided into two parts: theoretical and practical ;
  • the theory will have to be passed using tickets approved by the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation;
  • If you weren’t able to pass the exam right away, you can do it next time in seven days . And if the third attempt does not lead to anything, you will have to undergo additional training;
  • practice is also divided into two parts: first the circuit, and then the city .

At the autodrome you will have to ( clause 13 of the Decree of the Government of the Russian Federation of October 24, 2014 N 1097 “On admission to driving vehicles” ):

  • start from a place on an overpass ;
  • drive into the garage in reverse using the mirrors as a guide;
  • unfold in confined spaces;
  • emergency stopping and braking at different speeds;
  • mount a trailer.

The city checks:

  • Traffic rules;
  • driving skills in various difficult traffic situations;
  • how the driver complies with the rules for operating the vehicle .

In general, passing the driver's license exam at Gostekhnadzor is much easier than at the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate, and almost all applicants receive a certificate the first time. This is explained by the lower degree of danger and responsibility when driving these types of vehicles.

How much does the course cost and state fees?

The cost of training to drive snowmobiles directly depends on the student’s level of training.

Training centers provide various options for the training process and payment:

  1. Full course: theory and practice. The price range for this course is very wide. You can find a comprehensive program for 7,001 - 10,001. There is a program that includes a full theoretical course and 10 practical lessons with an instructor. There are training centers that offer only theory for this amount, while driving practice is estimated at 700 rubles per lesson.
  2. Theoretical course. A candidate with excellent knowledge of technology can do without practical training, but must master the technical structure of self-propelled vehicles and traffic rules. The price is determined depending on the region and ranges from 5,000 to 7,000 rubles. The duration of the course is on average 2-4 weeks.
  3. Distance learning. This package applies to experienced drivers who have practical skills. The driving school exempts such students from constantly attending classes. They prepare for the exam through online tests. The cost of the course also varies and depends on the rights of a particular category. On average, distance learning can cost 5,000 - 9,000 rubles. This type of training should not be confused with self-study of the basics of self-propelled vehicles, which has been prohibited in Russia since 2015.

Before starting the receipt procedure, the candidate must pay a state fee to the budget of the regional branch of Gostekhnadzor. For obtaining rights to paper, the state duty will be 500 rubles, for plastic - 2000 rubles.

The candidate can pay the mandatory fee in any convenient way: on the state portal, at any bank terminal or Russian Post. Payment details can be obtained on the official website of Gostekhnadzor or at the territorial office of the department where the exam will be held.

A student can save on renting a snowmobile at a driving school by completing practical classes and passing an exam on his vehicle. To do this, the snowmobile must be equipped with a rearview mirror and the student's license plate.

ATV driver's license

When a potential driver begins to deal with issues of obtaining a vehicle license, in 2021 the price of training to obtain an ATV license may differ for different categories of citizens. Training will be needed for those who are not confident in their own abilities and want to gain knowledge under the guidance of a specialist. And also for those who failed the exam three times and need training. Also, its cost varies depending on the region of the country.

RegionTuition fee, rub.
Moscow region
  • one-day training – 5 900
  • additional classes: on an ATV – 1,000;
  • on a snowmobile – 1,200
Leningrad region5,800 (training lasts 10 days)
Krasnodar region15,000 (course lasts 3 weeks and includes theory and practice)
Yaroslavl region5,000 (course is 20 hours)
Volgograd region12,000 (3 weeks)
Ulyanovsk region10,000 (full course – 3 weeks)
Tver region5,200 (2 weeks)
Sverdlovsk region5,000 (course lasts 20 hours)
Chelyabinsk region7,200 (1 month)
Rostov region5,000 (1 week)
Nizhny Novgorod Region10,000 (14 days)
Tula region7,000 (30 lessons)
Karelia10,200 (duration of classes 3 weeks)

On average, the time that will have to be spent on training will be approximately three weeks, and its current cost is 7,000 rubles . The state fee that must be paid when receiving a certificate on paper is 500 rubles , and on plastic - 2,000 rubles ( clause 43, part 1, article 333.33 of the Tax Code of the Russian Federation ). The validity period of the rights is ten years. If you operate an ATV or snowmobile without a license, then the fine for violating the law will be from 5,000 to 15,000 rubles ( Clause 1, Article 12.7 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation ).

There are different ways to obtain training for qualifying exams. One of them is independent, as mentioned above. This method involves acquiring knowledge externally. Well, training under the guidance of specialists can be completed at the appropriate training center under Gostekhnadzor. A regular driving school does not provide training to obtain the required category of license.

Risks of illegally acquiring a certificate

Before purchasing a snowmobile, the future owner is recommended to familiarize himself with the features of purchasing a UTM:

  • regular licenses with open category A1 allow you to drive only scooters and light motorcycles - they have nothing to do with snowmobiles and other self-propelled equipment;
  • open categories A: II, III and IV - do not give the driver the right to operate equipment belonging to class A1;
  • military personnel have the right to obtain rights at the location of the unit to which they are assigned;
  • sailors, as well as citizens of foreign countries and refugees must pass an exam to obtain a certificate to the chief inspector of the State Technical Inspectorate for a specific subject of the country;
  • a driver's license seized by state authorities can be returned by passing the theoretical part of the exam to the State Technical Control Inspectorate after half the period of deprivation of rights has expired and more;
  • If the driver’s license was revoked due to the student’s alcohol intoxication, then before taking the test the driver is required to submit a medical report to the State Technical Inspectorate.

There are citizens who are wondering about the illegal acquisition of a snowmobile driver's license. This approach is heterogeneous: on the one hand, quickly obtain a certificate without wasting time on preparations and further passing the exam, on the other hand, spend more money on these rights than on training with payment of state fees.

Illegal rights are entered not into the State Register, but into a single database, which causes problems for the snowmobile owner with government agencies. Inspectors from the State Traffic Inspectorate or Gostekhnadzor, having discovered a counterfeit document, issue a fine and remove the expensive vehicle, which the owner can pick up only after training and obtaining a vehicle registration certificate of the required category.

Little "subtleties"

  • If you have reached the age of 16, then you can start taking the “A1” license category. That is, coming of age is not entirely necessary, and even a 16-year-old teenager, after training and successfully passing the exam, has the right to drive a snowmobile or ATV of any power.
  • Training can be completed either at a “tractor” school or at an external studies institute at the State Technical Supervision Authority.
  • For motorcyclists who passed category “A” in 1999, it is much easier to obtain category “A1”. To be more precise, the future pilot of snowmobiles or quads will not need to pass the category test at all. The “A1” certificate is issued without passing an examination.

Don't confuse "quad bikes" with "quadricycles"

Those who are in the “trend” of the automotive industry are notified of the appearance of the “B1” category. It gives the right to drive “tricycles and quadricycles”. Inexperienced drivers confuse the concepts of “quad bike” and “quadricycle”. A quadricycle is a motorized vehicle weighing no more than 400 kg and a power unit not exceeding 15 kW. ATVs are vehicles for overcoming off-road conditions; engine power can reach 150-200 cc or more.

conclusions

Experience shows that obtaining a license for a snowmobile is a simple matter compared to a car license. Off-road self-propelled vehicles are not as popular as cars, so long queues at the State Technical Supervision are most likely excluded.

To prepare for the exam, you will need to attend a driving school. Even if you have your own snowmobile and experience riding it, you will not be able to obtain a license without the appropriate document confirming that you have completed the course. But in 2021, some changes have occurred, and now educational institutions offer to complete the course in 1 day in order to obtain an A1 category license. Also, if the owner has a license for an ATV, then they are accepted to drive a snowmobile, because standard certificate.

Driving license for a quadricycle/snowmobile of categories A1 and M

A quadricycle is not used on the road, but this vehicle is classified as a motorized vehicle. You can drive a quadricycle in category B1 - most often it is already opened in category B license. If the driver does not have this category in his license, he faces a fine of five to fifteen thousand rubles.

A snowmobile is a type of motorized tractor, so you need a tractor driver’s license. You must obtain an A1 license. You are allowed to prepare for exams on your own.

Driving in category B quad is not possible. In this category you can only ride a quadricycle.

To obtain a license to drive an ATV, you need to submit an application to Gostekhnadzor. You will need to undergo training, take a lesson with an instructor, then pass theory and practice - everything as usual. You can even ride a children's ATV only with a license.
