Translation of driver's license with notarization

Certification of a translation of a driver's license by a notary is necessary in strictly defined situations. These include the following cases:

  • desire to rent a car in a foreign country or drive your own;
  • desire to obtain rights in the Russian Federation;
  • moving to a permanent place of residence in the country;
  • forced migration due to work in another country.

Translation of driver's license

When traveling abroad, residents of the Russian Federation should remember that their ID will be valid for the first sixty days of their stay there. In the future, in order to enjoy the rights, they will need a translation notarized in accordance with all the rules.

To carry out the translation and certification procedure, it is enough to present a copy of your driver’s license , since the final text is filed with it. It is worth considering that employees make it as close as possible to the main text on both sides of the ID.

When and who needs the service of translation of rights from Ukrainian?

A motorist can drive with a national license if he temporarily drove a car from Ukraine to Russia, or is temporarily employed and does not intend to obtain a license for permanent residence in it, but with the obligatory presence of a translation of the driver’s license from Ukrainian into Russian.

Translation of Ukrainian rights is carried out throughout Russia in specialized translation agencies, which quickly carry out their direct functions and notarize the prepared document. This service costs around 1 thousand rubles.

Is translation of notarization required in Russia?

Notary seal and documents with pen lying on table

Many people believe that translation of notarized documents is not needed in Russia. This opinion is wrong. There are situations when authorities do not require such a document, but it is extremely important that the car owner has it in his hands. You should always remember that attaching a notarized translation to the original certificate is prohibited .

Notarized translations are not required in several cases. These include:

  • impossibility of carrying out the certification procedure by a notary, since the certification does not meet state standards;
  • short stay in the country.

It is important that the validity period of such a translation is equal to the possible period of use of the original document.

Notarized translation of driver's license

A car gives the owner freedom of movement, and nowadays, traveling abroad in your own car has become a completely common situation. However, each country has its own rules for issuing a driver’s license that allows driving vehicles on its territory.

In order to drive a car on the territory of the Russian Federation, you need to make a certified translation of your driver's license. Only after this procedure will rights issued on the territory of another state be considered valid in Russia.

Translation of driver's license into English

Translating a driver's license into English is a very responsible procedure. For this reason, it is necessary to carefully check the work done, especially the absence of errors in the spelling of proper names . It is worth drawing the attention of the employees of the organization performing the translation to their writing in English in other documents, for example, in a foreign passport.

If the driver does not have the translation in his hands, traffic service employees may issue a fine and assume that he does not have the right to drive a car at all.

This is supported by Article 12.7 of the Administrative Code :

1. Driving a vehicle by a driver who does not have the right to drive a vehicle (except for instructional driving) shall entail the imposition of an administrative fine in the amount of five thousand to fifteen thousand rubles.

Particular attention should be paid to the translation of information written in stamps and individual columns of the certificate. It must transmit all data as much as possible, otherwise the document will be considered invalid. It is definitely worth clarifying the question of the need for a notary’s seal on such documents in order to be able to use them for their intended purpose. Otherwise, you will have to completely collect and redo the necessary papers.

Driver's license

Driver's licenses issued in different states carry different legal effects abroad. This depends on a number of factors: the compliance of local traffic rules with international standards, the existence of agreements between countries in this area, the openness of a given state to tourism and the compliance of the procedure for obtaining them with all international standards. For example, in the Russian Federation there are two categories of driver’s licenses: standard domestic and international. With a standard license, citizens of our country can also drive a car in many foreign countries (especially with developed tourism). However, in the event of an insured accident on the road, the use of a standard ID may result in a refusal to receive insurance payment. Throughout the territory of the Russian Federation, citizens of most foreign countries, if they have a notarized translation into Russian, are allowed to drive a car according to the internal rights of their state. The permitted period is limited only by the validity of the VISA. However, this is not the first year in the State. There is a debate in the Duma on this matter and perhaps, after some time, some other restrictions will be introduced.

The need to translate a driver's license(s)

If the driver's license is written in a foreign language and is not fully duplicated in the Latin alphabet, a notarized translation will be required to legalize it. International driver's licenses do not need translation, but for domestic driver's licenses of other countries, on the territory of the Russian Federation, translation is required.

How to make a translation of a foreign driver's license in Russia?

Document translation services are provided by relevant bureaus, of which there are a large number in Russia.

How to choose the right translation agency?

In principle, a simple translation can be carried out by many, even small firms. But if you plan to present your VP to government agencies (for example, for exchange), then it is better to take care of the quality of the document in advance.

When looking for a specialist, pay attention to the following points:

  • Does the selected agency have the specialist you need who knows the required language? Not all agencies are staffed with performers who know absolutely all languages. And if this is the case, then it is possible that the specialist you need is busy.
  • Is your chosen one included in the Union of Translators of Russia ? Membership in the Union is confirmed by the appropriate ticket, the absence of which indicates that the specialist does not have the right to engage in translation. Consequently, the notary will refuse to certify the works of such a performer.
  • Does the specialist have a personal seal ? Often translators do not have their own seal, borrowing it from another performer. This is illegal and can cause problems.
  • Does the chosen bureau undertake to do the notarization itself ? Usually translators have a notary in mind with whom they collaborate. Such cooperation is convenient both for the translator (he does not worry that certification will be refused) and for you (the translation will be certified without you, plus a notarized TDP will cost less than a separate translation and a separate notary stamp).

In addition, it would be a good idea to familiarize yourself in advance with what the result of the performer’s work will look like. Pay special attention to whether the specialist correctly translates the information in seals and stamps (this point is often missed), as well as to the execution of the PES itself. It is best when the translation is filed with a photocopy of the VP.

What documents do I need to provide to make a transfer?

To make a translation, you must provide your driver's license; in some cases, a copy is sufficient.

Apart from the VP, no documents are required, but for the correct transliteration of your first and last name, it is advisable to present your international passport to the specialist.

As for the method of submitting papers, you often need to bring them in person, but there are bureaus that even accept documents via email. The finished PES can be sent to the customer by courier.

Production time

The production of a PES takes a little time - a maximum of 1 working day. An urgent translation with notarization can be picked up from some companies in as little as an hour and a half.

Price

A notarized PVU costs from 450 to 1,500 rubles. The price depends on the city in which you order the service, the rarity of the language and the urgency of the implementation.

The volume of text does not affect the cost.

Another way to travel in Russia legally

Foreign citizens have the right to undergo the procedure of exchanging foreign rights for Russian ones. Although the official name of the procedure is frightening (as if your internal license must be abandoned in favor of a Russian one), in essence it is obtaining yet another license, this time Russian. If your driving license meets the requirements of the Vienna Convention, then you will receive a Russian license without studying at a Russian driving school. If not, you will need to undergo training. As a result, you receive a Russian DP, the same as that of citizens of the Russian Federation. Of course, this option (especially in the case of a driving school) is troublesome. But there are two categories of persons who are obliged to exchange their rights for Russian ones:

  1. citizens and residents of the Russian Federation who received their licenses outside of Russia and intend to drive vehicles in the Russian Federation;
  2. foreign citizens who are going to work in the Russian Federation in the field of road transportation - with the exception of citizens of the states specified in paragraph 13 of the already mentioned Article 25 of the Federal Law "On Road Safety".
