About the tachograph

This is an on-board technical device, it is necessary for measuring, recording and indicating speed, mileage, time of movement of a vehicle in automatic mode, and monitoring the driver.

It is also intended to calculate the time that the driver spends on work and rest.

Device records are used for the following purposes:

  1. Accurately determine and record the speed and mileage of a vehicle.
  2. The device is indispensable when communicating with traffic police officers. The driver of a cargo vehicle with a tachograph on board will be able to successfully defend his case in controversial situations and during an accident.
  3. The main purpose of installing the device is correct recording and analysis of data.
  4. The tachograph is almost impossible to deceive. Using the tachograph, you can quickly determine how far the car has traveled and whether the driver has “overclocked” the meter.

Types of cards

Tachocards may vary depending on the control device equipped with the vehicle.

The device must meet the requirements of the European Agreement concerning the work of the crew of vehicles engaged in international road transport (AETR), or the provisions and articles of the Technical Regulations “On the safety of wheeled vehicles” (tachographs with CIPF).

Cards come in European and Russian designs.

There are the following types of cards:

  • driver (the card gives access to the device and allows you to work with the device in operating mode);
  • enterprises (provides full access to the necessary data);
  • controller (the device operates in the “Control” mode);
  • workshop card (intended for installation, calibration and adjustment of the device).

All of these types are the key to access various modes and information that is in the device’s memory.

How to use a tachograph with a driver card

Every driver who carries out passenger and cargo transportation on vehicles of certain categories, with the mandatory use of a digital tachograph CIPF, must have impeccable knowledge of what a tachograph card is for a driver and how to use it.
The process of managing a tachograph is not complicated, however, if you do not follow a certain list of legally approved rules, you can cause a sufficient number of problems that will become a source of trouble at work.

The CIPF tachograph is a digital device. It carries the function of a flight recorder. Its installation on vehicles that are directly involved in commercial transportation is a mandatory procedure and is carefully monitored by the relevant authorities, as well as the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation.

In order for the tachograph to operate correctly, the device must be turned on while the vehicle is moving, and a driver card for the tachograph must be inserted into it.

How a driver uses a tachograph with a chip card:

· As soon as the driver starts his shift, he is obliged to insert his driver card into the slot of the tachograph device. In this case, the CIPF tachograph card is located in the upper part of the slot. As soon as a click is heard, this will indicate that the card has been installed correctly. The tachograph cannot be used without a driver card.

· The driver enters the PIN code. If you enter the PIN code incorrectly, you will need to use the PIN code.

· If there are at least two people in the vehicle crew, then each of them must insert the card only into their own tachograph slot.

· Once the card is activated, the driver will see his personal information on the screen. If the screen is dark and blank, it means the card was inserted incorrectly. And its position should be corrected.

· When automatically issuing a card back, as well as repeating this procedure, you should check the card for a malfunction, and if it is confirmed, replace it with a new one.

· After the CIPF tachograph card is activated, the driver indicates the necessary information before the car moves off. If the driver is currently resting, he must select the “LEISURE” mode; if he is going on a trip, he must select the “WORK” mode.

· While driving, the “DRIVING” mode will be displayed on the screen.

· If there is a stop ahead, the driver of the vehicle must return to rest mode.”

· As soon as the shift is over, the driver removes his card from the slot by pressing a special button.

· The alternation of modes should be optimal.

Expenses for driver cards included in the tachograph reduce income tax: companies and entrepreneurs providing motor transport services have the right to take into account the costs of purchasing driver cards when taxing profits. The Russian Ministry of Finance reported this in a letter dated June 25, 2013 No. 03-03-06/1/23941. According to the order of the Ministry of Transport dated February 13, 2013 No. 36, the tachograph includes tachograph cards, including a driver card. In this regard, the costs of purchasing driver cards, according to the Ministry of Finance, can be classified as other costs associated with production and sales (subclause 49, clause 1, article 264 of the Tax Code of the Russian Federation) - provided that such costs are economically justified and documented confirmed.
