The driver is a pensioner. What should be the driver age limit?

Up to what age can you drive a car in 2021?

And we will start with the most important thing. In the most popular legal act - the traffic rules - you will not find an answer to the question of how old pensioners have the right to drive a car. The good news for seniors is that there are no age restrictions in any law or other document of Russian legislation.

As of 2021, there is no maximum age limit for being licensed to drive.

If you read somewhere that supposedly additional checks are being introduced for people aged 55, 60 or 80 to determine their health status and ability to drive a car, then this is not true and “fake”. However, such bills have been around for a long time, where, upon reaching a certain age, legislators proposed limiting people’s right to drive, but they never came into force officially.

The legislative framework

Affirmations are good. But let's refer to the regulations of the current legislation.

Since in our case we are trying to prove the absence of a ban on driving a car for older people, we will provide a list of legal acts that could contain such a ban, but you will not find it there:

  • first of all, the traffic rules do not regulate in any of the sections until how many years pensioners drive a car,
  • just as in the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation there are no existing fines for driving after reaching a certain age,
  • there is nothing similar in the special Government Decree on admission to management,
  • The maximum age is also not indicated in the List of Contraindications.

Is it true that older people need to undergo medical examinations more often?

Let's go even further! Logically, any age should be regulated by law not as a complete ban on driving upon reaching it, but, probably, as a requirement to increase the frequency of medical examinations or additional examinations. But this is not in the relevant regulatory framework of the Russian Federation.

In 2021, the issue we are discussing is regulated by 2 legislative acts:

  • Articles 23 and 24 of the Federal Law on Road Safety contain general provisions on medical support for the transport infrastructure of Russia,
  • In pursuance of this law, Order No. 344 of the Ministry of Health was issued on conducting mandatory medical examination of drivers.

Is it possible to drive a motorcycle?

Yes. There are also no specific restrictions that would prohibit riding a motorcycle until a certain age. You can ride a motorcycle even if you are 100 years old or more.

Age restrictions for obtaining a driver's license

Age for obtaining a driver's license category B for passenger cars. When is the best time to start studying? It's completely free. You can also start studying the traffic rules and year exam papers. So it will always be done in time. The same applies to the license to drive Tm trams and Tb trolleybuses. On the contrary, you will be able to start driving a car immediately after completing the training and obtaining your license. To obtain any additional category you will have to undergo training.

You will not be allowed to take the exams without proof of training. Hello, is it possible to start studying at 15 for category A1, and by the end of the month you will be able to learn to drive a motorcycle only from the age of 16? That is, up to the age of 16, you can go to a driving school only to study theory if the driving school agrees, and driving is possible only at the age of 16. Maxim Maybe it's better to get honey first. It’s still more reliable this way. Otherwise he will save money, start studying, and then honey. There will be difficulties with returning the money, perhaps not the entire amount.

The certificate is valid for a year, the duration of training for category A1 is a month, no more. There are still 10 months left to obtain your license. It does not affect the validity period of the rights; it is calculated from the moment the rights are issued. Of course, first a medical certificate. Without it, who will put you behind the wheel of a motorcycle to study at a motorcycle school?

Hello, I just turned 16 years old, can I go and take my license and pass all the exams at the age of 16? Will I be able to just come at 18 to get my license, will I have to retake something at 18? At the age of 16, you can only take exams for category M and subcategory A1. The certificate will be issued immediately after successfully passing the exams.

Hello, I received my driving license at the age of 16, category A1, and now I want to get a full category A. What will I need to do for this? You need to undergo training for category A if previously you studied only for A1 and at the age of 18 pass exams for this category. I am 16 years old. O studied at A category. I went to the traffic police to take the M, A1 exam, but they didn’t allow me to take the exam. They told me to have a training certificate specifically for A1.

Is this legal? Evgeniy, the rules for issuing driver’s licenses and the administrative regulations for issuing licenses do not directly say that a document on training for the main category is not suitable for taking the exam for the subcategory. Therefore there are 2 options:. If necessary, challenge it. Ask the driving school to add subcategory A1 to the certificate, since you completed the training in any case. Haniya, the rules are the same for everyone, marriage does not affect the age for obtaining a tertiary education.

Category B licenses are issued only to those over 18 years of age. You write that driving a vehicle for persons under 18 years of age is only possible when accompanied by an instructor. Is it possible to replace an instructor with a parent who has more than 10 years of experience, and if not, what documents are required so that they can obtain an instructor’s license?

It's not enough to have an instructor's credentials. For training driving, the vehicle must be equipped as a training vehicle. Theoretically, you can undergo training and receive an instructor certificate.

I recommend checking the information about the required documents where you plan to study. The car will also have to be re-equipped. If all this is started for the sake of training one person, then it is unlikely to be profitable. It’s easier to take the required number of hours from an instructor with documents and a training car. Is it possible to withdraw your license from the traffic police ahead of schedule 2 months before your birthday, due to moving to another region of Russia and a long-term inability to return to the region where you took the exam?

Or, in this case, do I have the opportunity to get a license without retaking exams in another region? I recommend that you call both traffic police departments where you took the exams and where you want to get your license and find out if this option is possible.

It is not clearly stated in the legislation. If I complete the training and pass the exam for category B, at the age of 18 I will only need to come and pick up my license or I will need to take some exam again.

Where did you get the idea that you can only study for Category A from the age of 18? There is no training for riding a motorcycle on the roads, only on the site, which is why this item was removed from the traffic rules. As I understand the latest changes, you can study from the age of 16, pass for category A from the age of 18, and using the same training certificate, the law allows you to pass for category A1 and M from January 1 of the year. IMHO: I doubt that the driving school regulations allow admission to internal examinations of candidates who have not reached the appropriate age for obtaining the right to drive a category A vehicle.

A certificate of completion of a driving school is issued after passing internal exams, that is, passing a theoretical exam and an exam on initial vehicle driving skills.

And the right to drive a category “A” vehicle is granted to persons who have reached the age of eighteen. I doubt that the driving school regulations allow candidates who have not reached the appropriate age for obtaining the right to drive a category A vehicle to be admitted to internal exams.

They are allowed in the same way as for categories B and C. As far as I know, I asked the head of the driving school, nothing has changed with the training program for category A, they will teach as before from the age of 16. I couldn’t find where it is specifically stated about the age of training, so the question remains open Dmitry; in the sample driver training programs, information about the minimum age for category A is not provided.

There is no such information in other documents known to me either. The Law “On Road Traffic Safety”, Article 26, describes only the age of admission to exams and obtaining a license. Good afternoon, I’m 16 years old and I’m studying at a driving school. The traffic police test was given immediately after my 17th birthday. The question is, do I need to take the exam again at 18? Or just come and pick up your license, and is it possible to pick up your license right on your 18th birthday? Persons who have reached the age of seventeen are allowed to take exams for the right to drive vehicles of categories “B” and “C” subject to the conditions provided for in paragraph 1 of this article.

Persons who have reached the age established by this article, who have a medical certificate stating that there are no contraindications to driving vehicles, and who have undergone appropriate professional training in the prescribed manner are allowed to take the exams.

Russian national driver's licenses are issued to specified persons upon reaching the age of eighteen. Hello, the question is this: I recently turned 17 years old and I passed the exam for category B.

Can I pay the state fee and get a category M driver's license? This option is not provided for by law.

That is, you need to either study separately and pass for category M, or wait until you are given a category B license. Andrey, from the point of view of the current traffic rules, there are no age restrictions when learning to drive a motorcycle, since training is carried out on a closed circuit and public roads does not affect use. So in general it all depends on the driving school. Good evening! In order to train persons under 18 years of age in the main categories A, B, C, the driving school agrees with the traffic police on a separate program from the main one for persons under 18 years of age.

If a driving school does not have such a program, it does not have the right to teach and issue a training certificate!!! The Ministry of Education also has special requirements for the training of such persons; they will study longer than adults, since they can study no more than 2 times a week for an hour. There are also special requirements for the premises. The contract for the education of their children is drawn up by one of the parents or guardian! Tell me, please, is it possible to study for two categories in and with at once?

And get the appropriate rights. Please tell me, my son is 17 years old, he studies at a driving school for categories A1 and B. Or he will decide on one ticket, it will be for categories A1 and B.

If the exam is taken simultaneously for 2 categories, then, as a rule, the driver candidate solves only one exam ticket. If your son first goes to take the exam for A1, and then separately for B, then the theory will need to be taken twice. Good afternoon. My son attended a driving school and passed his exams, but he will turn 18 in 7 months. Will he need to retake the traffic police exams when getting his license?

What category does an electric car with a power of less than 5 kV belong to? If the exams are passed successfully, then at the age of 18 you will simply need to obtain a driver's license. There is no need to retake the exams. Roman, indicate the permissible maximum weight and number of seats of the specified vehicle.

In Russia, is it really possible to drive on public roads in a car with a power of less than 5 kW?

How often do pensioners need to obtain a medical certificate?

Once every 10 years. This is regulated by the same Federal Law on Safety, which specifies that a driver’s license must be changed every 10 years. In turn, Order No. 344 prescribes (in paragraph 4) the mandatory receipt of a new certificate when replacing rights.

The 2021 legislation has not established any special conditions, as we wrote above, for older people regarding the age at which they need to undergo a medical examination more often.

Meanwhile, there is still an important subtlety here, which lies in the purpose of obtaining a medical certificate - in the presence of diseases and conditions under which driving is prohibited and which are more common among pensioners than among young people or middle-aged people.

At what age can you take your license?

According to the newspaper, such a bill was prepared by the State Traffic Inspectorate, and the ministry sent the document for consideration by the government. Nowadays, at the age of 17 you can take the test to obtain a license, but you can still drive a car and get a license only from the age of 18. At the moment, the driving procedure and requirements for mentors are not specified; they will appear later in the government decree.

Age for obtaining a driver's license category B for passenger cars. When is the best time to start studying? It's completely free. You can also start studying the traffic rules and year exam papers.

The draft of the new administrative regulations for conducting driving tests states that they can take it from the age of 16.

State Duma deputy Vasily Vlasov proposed allowing Russian citizens to drive a car upon reaching 16 years of age. According to Vlasov, young people can be officially employed, study in another city and live separately from their families.

What are the possible contraindications?

We provided a complete list of all diseases for which driving is prohibited or limited in one of our previous articles.

Let us note the most relevant ones for old age:

  • dementia,
  • amnesia,
  • Alzheimer's disease,
  • almost all mental disorders and diseases affecting mental activity,
  • also, if after a stroke there are consequences in the form of dementia, blindness, amnesia, then driving is also prohibited.
