Procedure for obtaining a driver's license

A driver's license is obtained after passing the established procedure by capable citizens who have passed a practical and theoretical exam at the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate. In this case, he will need to provide a medical examination, which is issued after visiting all the doctors on the list confirming the absence of contraindications for driving a vehicle. At the same time, for each category there is a minimum age:

  • “M”, “A1” - from 16 years old;
  • “A”, “B”, “C” - from 18 years of age;
  • “D” and “E” - 21 years old.

In what cases is it necessary to replace rights?

Most drivers need to write an application to change their driver’s license when their 10-year validity period has expired. As soon as this period expires, they will automatically become invalid, that is, you will no longer be able to drive the car. This is fraught with large fines and other unpleasant consequences.

But to replace their rights, they contact the territorial traffic police authorities for other reasons:

  • the driver’s personal data has changed (usually we are talking about changing the last name, but in some situations the first name and even patronymic may change; this is not prohibited by law);
  • the driver's license was damaged, making it impossible to read the information on it (for example, it was partially burned);
  • the driver's license needs to be changed due to loss or theft;
  • the driver’s health status has changed (for example, vision has improved, and therefore the restriction on driving vehicles exclusively with glasses was lifted);
  • It turned out that the previous driver’s license was invalid (it turned out to be fake).

In other cases, the driver’s license will be valid until the expiration date, but you can replace them ahead of time, at your own request. In order for the validity of the new driving license to be equal to the maximum 10 years, you will need to submit a medical certificate to the traffic police department, as well as pay a state fee of 2,000 rubles.

List of all papers required for registration

The department itself will tell you in more detail what documents are needed to obtain a license, but it is advisable to come there with a full package of papers. The list is strictly regulated by law, so employees do not have the right to request additional certificates. You need to take the following with you:

  1. Application for a driver's license. A sample form is available at the stands or can be found online. Traffic police or MFC employees will help you fill out the paperwork. When entering, you must be as careful as possible to eliminate errors, typos and other errors.
  2. Identification. Any document issued by an official body and containing complete information about the applicant and his photograph will be suitable. This could be a Russian passport, an international passport, a military or student ID.
  3. Certificate of registration. In most cases, it is not required, since there is always a passport where it is indicated in the form of a stamp on a certain page. To be sure, you can make a copy and provide it along with the rest of the documents.
  4. Medical examination issued according to form 003-В/у. The document is obtained after passing a medical examination in a specialized institution, which can be private or public. The certificate must be certified by the manager of the organization or the head physician.
  5. A document that confirms that you have attended lectures and completed courses. It is issued by a driving school after a person has attended all classes, completed training and passed a practical driving test at the institution.
  6. Receipt confirming payment of the fee. The amount is established by the Federal Tax Service. The law is constantly changing, so the size may increase periodically. This fee is required to be paid and without it the document will be refused.

Once you find out what documents are needed to obtain a driver’s license, you should start preparing them in advance so that everything is at hand at a certain moment. Then the registration will not be delayed and it will be easy to obtain your license in a short time. Replacing an expired ID

You can replace your ID on the day you contact the traffic police, but this may be accompanied by the imposition of additional paid services. Often, obtaining a license on the day of application can result in an additional amount for the driver, equal to payment of the state fee.

ATTENTION !!! If a driver applies to the MFC to replace an expired license, then, as a rule, he will have to wait at least 7 days to receive a new license. There is no expedited procedure in this case.

On the State Services portal, the driver will need to fill out all the items and attach scans of the documents specified in the application. After this, he will be assigned a day when he can apply to the traffic police to obtain a license.

When replacing an expired certificate, you will need to provide the following documents:
  • new sample medical certificate,
  • certificate of completion of a driving school with the required number of training hours,
  • passport,
  • old rights.

If the documents are expired and there is a change of surname, then additional papers will be required in the form of a certificate of change of surname. Many drivers seek to avoid a significant fine by preferring to claim that they left their license at home. In this case, the inspector issues a fine of only 500 rubles, instead of 15,000 rubles. But this method does not always work. The traffic police database contains all the necessary information about the driver. All traffic inspectors are equipped with devices that allow them to easily receive information about a driver or car anywhere in the country. When sending a request to an inspector, you will not be able to wriggle out of a serious punishment.

Driving a vehicle outside our state is not allowed without an international driver's license. The exception is several friendly neighboring countries, where the rules are practically no different from ours (Armenia, Belarus and others).
