When is parking free on weekends?
Since 2013, the Russian capital has abolished the ability to park a car on city streets for free. Even today, city residents do not fully understand whether parking is free or not. Today in Moscow there are regulated paid parking lots.
Motorists have the right to park their car for free on Sundays, provided that the zone is not included in the increased tariff area. The latter includes 237 streets in Moscow.
During a public holiday, you can park on absolutely any street without restrictions . You won't have to pay any money. Holidays are listed in the Labor Code of the Russian Federation. This includes both Russia Day and New Year and Merry Christmas.
If the holiday falls on a Friday, parking will be free the next day.
It is worth familiarizing yourself with the streets included in the increased tariff zone in advance. This is mainly the city center, where there is heavy traffic congestion.
Intercept parking lots where you can park for free in Moscow
Parking and rides allow you to park for free during certain hours. The locations of such parking lots are usually concentrated near large metro stations. Their existence is intended to encourage drivers to use public transport and, first of all, the metro to travel to their place of work.
There are already 21 sites for such parking throughout Moscow, and in the next 4 years their number will increase by another 37. The exact addresses of such parking lots are contained on the official website of the Moscow metro.
Prices for paid parking in Moscow on Saturday
When talking about how much parking costs on a Saturday, it is important to consider the geographical location:
- Downtown. 50-60 rubles – for the first half hour, then – 100-150 rubles per hour. At night – 50-60 rubles for 60 minutes.
- Behind the Garden Ring. 40 rubles per hour day and night.
- Near Moscow City. 160 rubles for the first 120 minutes, then 130 rubles per hour. At night – 80 rubles per 1 hour.
Failure to pay for city parking is equivalent to an administrative offense. In this case, the motorist faces a fine of 2,500 rubles.
If you pay within 20 days, you can save up to 1,750 rubles.
Night parking fee in Moscow in 2021
The cost of a parking space during the daytime ranges from 40 to 80 rubles; at night, rates double. On weekends (public holidays, Sundays, etc.), except Saturdays, parking is free.
Parkons are open during the day from 8.00 to 20.00. Each parking lot is assigned a specific route, which lasts 15 minutes.
Today there are enough legal ways to relieve yourself of the burden of paying for parking in Moscow; a win-win option in this matter would be to travel in an electric car or two-wheeled motorized vehicles, since the rules on paid parking do not apply to them, which cannot be said about hybrids.
Who has the right to park for free on weekends?
There are categories of beneficiaries for whom free parking in Moscow is available on weekends. These include:
- owners of motorcycles and electric vehicles;
- ambulances, fire department, police, FSB, Ministry of Emergency Situations, etc.;
- drivers with disabilities (in a specially designated place with a corresponding sticker on the car window);
- drivers with preferential parking permits.
The list of citizens entitled to receive a preferential permit includes:
- former participants of the Second World War;
- concentration camp prisoners;
- heroes of the Russian Federation and the USSR;
- citizens who have the highest degree of distinction for work in the Soviet Union;
- heroes awarded all degrees of the Order of Glory;

Documents for obtaining a preferential permit (application, passport, etc.) are submitted through any government department.
List of free parking in Moscow on Saturday and Sunday
Based on Moscow Government Resolution No. 543, approved on October 5, 2012, a certain fee was introduced for parking in the capital.
The cost of a parking space, established by the tariffs of the State Public Institution “Administrator of the Moscow Parking Space”, varies depending on factors such as:
- parking location
- parking time
In 2021, parking costs vary from 40 rubles per hour to 380 rubles for the same period of time.
The following categories of drivers can receive benefits for paid parking:
- Residents:
- permanent residents in the paid parking area. Free parking is available in the resident's area of residence from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m. the basis for receiving the benefit is a special permit, which can be issued for 1,2 or 3 years

Where can I park my car on a day off?
Parking on Saturday or Sunday is permitted in the following areas:
- Intercept car parks . They are located near metro stations, MCC and MCD. If you make 2 trips by rail, you can leave your vehicle for free (from 6 am to half 10 pm). Moreover, departure must begin from the nearest station from the parking lot.
- Closed area . Some parking lots with a barrier offer a night rate at a special price - 50 rubles per hour for the first 2 hours, then free (from 22-00 to 10-00).
- Parking near a large park . On a weekend you will have to pay 100 rubles per hour during the day and 50 rubles at night for every first 2 hours.
If you have any questions about parking your car on a weekend, you can contact the JCC at 7495-539-5454 or 3210.
On what days except Sunday can you park in Moscow for free in 2021?
Car owners have access to free parking in the center of Moscow on the following days
- Days recognized as holidays (state non-working holidays).
- Sunday.
- Weekends that were moved to a weekday in accordance with the law.
- Saturdays after a weekend or holiday. On regular Saturdays, parking is paid according to the current tariff.
Even such days do not give the right to free parking to malicious debtors of fines if they have not been repaid and the relevant information has not been deleted from the traffic police website. A more detailed list of days and places with free parking is available on the official website of the Moscow Mayor.
Weekends include free parking, but with reservations. Not all Saturdays fall under this category, since most companies also work on Saturday, so Saturday is considered a day off only if the previous Friday was a holiday or day off.
How to pay for parking on a weekend
You can do this in several ways:
- In cash through Qiwi terminals.
- Call 8495-5454 or 3210 . After dialing the numbers, follow the instructions from the automatic answering machine.
- By SMS to 7757 . In your message, please indicate the parking number and car number, and the time of use in hours. For example: 1002*N708TU99*5.
- Through an application on a smartphone. It can be downloaded from the Play Store by entering “Moscow Parking” in the search.
If you pay for Moscow parking on weekends through a mobile application or via SMS, the funds will be withdrawn every minute. When using other methods, times are rounded up.
You won't be able to cheat and not pay for a parking space. Automated systems and foot inspectors on the street make it possible to detect violations. Therefore, it is better to consider all the paid parking rules in advance and find out their operating hours.
This way, those who have a preferential permit can save money. Parking in Moscow on Sundays and holidays is free only on some streets, and on Saturdays standard rates apply.
Free parking calendar
What is the situation with payment on Saturday and Sunday? The calendar shows which days parking in the city will be free. This:
- Public holidays (only those officially recognized as non-working days);
- Sunday - on this day parking in Moscow will be free;
- Saturdays after officially recognized public holidays, which are considered non-working;
- Public holidays moved to weekdays by government decree.
Please note that parking according to the calendar may be free only in the center of Moscow. At the same time, if Sunday is always free, then Saturdays need to be checked against the calendar. On non-holidays they are paid at a standard rate similar to weekdays.
However, those who do not pay fines on time do not have to wait for free parking in Moscow even on weekends - they will pay for it in accordance with the tariff.
