What exams to take for driving license?
To obtain a driver's license, you must undergo training at a driving school and, after completion, pass an internal exam:
- Theoretical stage. On it you need to solve from three to five tickets, with only one mistake allowed. It is worth considering that requirements may vary depending on the rules of the driving school.
- Practical stage. It is divided into two stages: performing elements on the racetrack and demonstrating driving skills in urban conditions.
After this, the cadet will have to pass an exam at the traffic police. It consists of the same stages as the internal exam at a driving school: theory, racing track, driving in the city, but now with a traffic police inspector.

Exams in the traffic police
Upon completion of training in one of the driving schools of the Main Road network, qualifying exams in the traffic police follow. This means that students are already familiar with the traffic rules, have acquired driving skills and are ready to answer questions on exam cards. Before passing theory and practice at a driving school, you can answer questions about driving rules online on the website to test your knowledge.
To register for a car test in Moscow, you will need a passport and license. Everything else: provision of a vehicle and a platform, will be provided by a representative from the driving school.
According to the program, first there is a theoretical part, followed by a practical part. To pass a theoretical test in any driving category with excellent marks, you need to:
Firstly, prepare well, study in detail all the traffic rules and be confident in yourself.
Secondly, do not worry when you see the test forms and all the questions provided in them. Calmly read them and give the correct answer. You shouldn’t worry about the examiners sitting in the audience and start unnecessary conversations in the audience.
Interesting! You can take a free trial practical driving lesson to be confident in the upcoming test at the traffic police.
Knowledge of the theory is not enough to obtain a driver’s license and an honorary title. A practical exam follows. To complete the task perfectly, you must first undergo training and take individual lessons from qualified instructors.
Before starting the examination process, you need to check whether the car is on the handbrake, and during the test, take into account little things while driving, for example: whether the turn signal is on.
Remember at what speed you need to move along the route and city given to you and do not exceed the restrictions. Before the practical part, under no circumstances should you use any sedatives. They slow down brain processes. While driving, you may not get your bearings in time, which will lead to dire consequences.
Driving training price by category:
- “B” (passenger cars) – 14,900 – 37,900 rubles.
- “A” and “A1” (motorcycles) – 18,000 rubles.
- Category “M” (mopeds) – 17,900 rubles.
Regarding the cost of training in categories: “C”, “BE”, “CE”, you can consult the operator by phone or find out at the addresses of the branches.
At the end of the exam, points are calculated taking into account all violations committed. If the result is unsatisfactory, you are officially assigned a retake on a certain date.
How to pass your license the first time
According to statistics, only 30-35% of cadets can pass the traffic police exam the first time. In addition, as practice shows, if you put motorists with fifteen years of driving experience behind the wheel, half of them will fail. This is due to the fact that after passing, a person relaxes and drives the car on an intuitive level, not always paying attention to signs, markings and other traffic elements.
The same applies to theory. If you test drivers with experience, the chance of passing will approach zero. Simply because they no longer remember the exact definitions and formulations 15 years after studying at a driving school. Therefore, in many ways, beginners have advantages. Their vision is not yet blurred, and they are not yet accustomed to driving intuitively.

What do you need to pass your license?
The secret to successfully passing the test the first time is to hone your driving skills on the race track and diligently study, and sometimes go through a detailed analysis of the questions and answers. Only through training will experience come, with which you will feel confident.
The psychological aspect plays a huge role in this issue. The main thing is to understand that you have been through this, you know the answer to this or that question, you know how to start without rolling back on an overpass, you can choose a favorable place for a U-turn in the city.
Most mistakes when passing traffic police exams are made due to anxiety and uncertainty.
Evgeniy Loginov, director:
“The most important thing is not to be nervous and clearly understand for yourself that this is your next stage of life and, if you are ready for it, you will definitely pass it. But here it is very important to give a fair assessment of your knowledge and skills. You need to be honest with yourself!”
Each student has an individual predisposition. As a rule, theory is easy for women. They are more collected and responsible. For men, on the contrary, it is easier to do exercises on the racetrack and in the city than to learn the theoretical foundations of traffic rules.”
Igor Panteleev, driving school graduate, car enthusiast:
«I mastered the autodrome easily because I trained as a teenager and tried to drive the cars of friends and relatives. There were difficulties with the theory. For a long time I could not pass the internal exam at a driving school; I made many mistakes due to inattention. Then I simply wrote down the questions that caused difficulties and taught them separately. But then, when passing the traffic police test, I easily passed the theory the first time. The circuit and the city did not pose any difficulties. I can advise beginners to immediately identify where the main reasons for misunderstanding arise, be it theory or practice. And train hard and train. Only repetition can achieve results ».

Exam-retake on knowledge of traffic rules in case of deprivation of rights
Regardless of the reason for deprivation of rights, a person must retake the exam, which is conducted according to the same rules as the first time. The main feature is that you only have to go through the theoretical part. There is no need to re-pass the race track and the city, so fewer documents will be required.
To return rights, you must follow a certain algorithm of actions:
- sign up for registration at any branch of the MREO;
- collect the necessary package of documents: application, identity card and medical certificate (if necessary);
- at the specified time, appear at the MREO and present documents to the specialist at the reception window;
- after a thorough check, the traffic police officer will issue a referral for the exam;
- go to the required office and take the theoretical part.
The driver should know that you can apply for a retake after half the period of deprivation of your driver's license. If the court prohibits a person from driving for a year, then he can take the exam after 6 months. However, the license will not be issued immediately; you will have to wait for the end of the sentence. This is an additional advantage for those who could not pass the theory the first time.
